Just a family here, using I hope common sense. No obligation to give any info to anybody. We do what we do because we want to. We choose to respect the site parameters, basically to encourage safe responsable riding.

Not handing out on a silver platter info to some newbie too lazy to use the search function the answer as to how to break the law more is certainly one valid option.

We aim to help, will the squid turn to other sources of information, probably. That'll be his loss not ours. Hopefully he'll hit a few likeminded sites and get a few more flamings.

But he has had at least one warning that not all bikers condone "Rebel" attitudes and disregard for social values along with a death wish.

Do we start selling crack because if we don't he'll just go buy it from somebody else that doesn't use the same fine grade of ingredients we would ?
I agree fully Uncle Bob, well said.

Unquestionably, the flackers were on the side of right and intended to save this fellow some grief or worse.

Now the intention of this fellow's posting was a request for information regarding why his bike performed poorly and he was essentially asking for a solution to the "problem". Well there actually is a very good and inexpensive solution to his problem and, with a bit of research on his part he could find the information easily online.

My questions on the M-J ethics are:

1) Is it ethical to provide this person with the information?
Or, is it ethical to withhold the information "for his own good?
2) If it IS ethical to withhold the information in this case, how do you decide when you should or should not share such information?

I'm very curious as to how some of you handle this sort of thing here.

Thanks,

B-Rex
OMG. haha. i just took an Ethics in America test yesterday. haha.
but i think its ethical to give him the info. i mean..he's going to street drag race no matter what you tell him..so help him out.
i understand people despise squids...and try to talk sense into them..but its like trying to tell your kid to not do something..and they're like..whatever! haha. so if you know it..sure why not..tell him.

If you know the info, pass it on. Try not to judge. I doubt if many of the safety guys have much of an answer anyway, except how to dress up.

Everyone has done stupid things in their life, and if they are reading this they survived. Let the guy live as much as he wants.

A website doesn't have any ethics, individuals do. Make your own decision it's none of 'our' business.

Just out of curiosity, how'd you do on that test?

to both you and eb77k:

I wish it was just that simple. Unfortunately, since I'm an old phart....somewhere along the way I developed a nasty little thing called a conscience.

I did plenty of dumb stuff along the way with motorcycles. However, I was fortunate enough to have been "forced" to the track when I decided to drag race a heavily modified motorcycle (had to do with the kind of job I had and how quickly I would have lost it if I was caught street drag racing). Two years later I also crashed that motorcycle and survived it BECAUSE I was on a dedicated drag strip.

The fellow I'm referring to has no such controls. I would not be particularly pleased if info I provided hastened his or more importantly, an innocent bystander's, demise. So, for now, if he wants to kill himself (or anyone else) on the street drag racing, he will have to get the info to boost his gixxer 1k from someone else besides me. As Uncle Bob re-implied, he could spend some time with a search engine and figure it out for himself.

Maybe during that search he will pick up some decent advice AGAIN about drag racing on the street.

IMHO, this is a reasonable suggestion. And I won't rule it out. However, I'm going to wait a bit and see if the fellow hangs around and participates in the forum some. That alone would be an indication that he may be developing some sense and less likely to have a fatal event.

I don't think there is any hurry.

You guys are cold-blooded picking on typos.

Besides, massages ARE known to cure street drag racing. Like, Hulllooooo!
