| Seat Tester | sorry I can't answer your question re:ballast, however I just fitted these lights to my M50 because of the same problem distance fine, but side light poor. They are originally for a cars front spoiler. the side light is quite good so far but they are pointed straight ahead at the moment and need to be fine tuned

| Throttle Jockey ![]() | Do you ride with the high beam on? Some will ride with on until they get the headlight flash from on coming motorists.

| A ballast is a sort of transformer, like in a fluorescent fixture. It raises the voltage for the type of bulb. I wasn't aware that there were different sizes. Usually a kit comes with the appropriate ballast. Are you sure it's adjusted properly (with weight on the bike)?

| Besides finding the fountain of youth, about the only thing I have done is upgrade the light. I adjust the beam for the brights just low enough to keep cars from flashing me. I don't use low beam for anything except downtown areas that are lit up well. Oh, and I never overdrive the lights.
