I guess my only other point would be that some have a distorted view of what's a reasonable stopping distance because they haven't practiced enough themselves. Not pointing any fingers here, but a skilled rider can stop amazingly quickly.
Sure... in a straight line. Try stopping really fast in a hard lean. Yeah... skill or no skill if you are taking a 40 mph turn @ 80 mph and it's a low-visibility curve, then it's pure luck. NO ONE can stop in time in that scenario... you're either going off the road or hitting whatever hazard you're trying to avoid.

Now we're in a 40 mph turn going 80? Jeez, it just keeps getting worse!

I know Clint, I was just trying to point to the other end of the spectrum that you were avoiding... Yes some people have great skill but it only goes so far.

You've answered your own question.

Now, the remedy of this, as you and Kodatech mentioned is to not outpace your eyeballs and skills.

Other strategies are outlined in Proficient Motorcycling.

One that everyone will preach. Is using a delayed apex. Delaying your entry into the corner, so you can see far enough around or into it, to minimize the risk of having a surprise greet you in the middle of it.

As to the riders you are seeing or speaking of. They probably know those stretches of road very, very, very well, and can haul ass with considerable aplomb. Whether it be 5, 10, 20 or whatever over the posted speed. Their skill, and their bikes can probably handle it. But their habits are what are in question. Consequently, their pride or cockiness will be their undoing. Not their skill. Clipping the apexes early to maintain speed might be fun, or look like fun, but it has it's place. Namely the track.

You mean like this?

Animals, especially deer, scare the crap out of me. At dusk and dawn, the deer and the antelope play.

Again.. to repeat myself..

tracks are conditioned for this type of riding.. not average highways. Debris from all over the place, rocks on the road, and most of what I see beyond the pot holes are the recaps that large trucks lose constantly.

Not fun to hit one of those things goin 100+ mph

YES they were going too fast. Yes they were probably outrunning their sight line. But the deer collision was not due to the line-of-sight.

Really it is all just fun and games until someone hits a tree, oncoming truck or whatever, the last thing I want when on a group ride is to round a bend to find a dead mate. Save the heroics for track days coz the road is no joke.
