Default Neutral Light

Not sure where this belongs but....

My neutral light stopped working, I have not found it to be a huge problem, I usually shut down the bike before any time I'd put it in neutral, or I just let the clutch out real slow to be safe and be sure...

But clearly I want to get this working?

Any idea's to a possible cause?

Bad bulb or fuse? Clipped or pinch wire? It's gone on holiday and will be back next week?

Carry some green tape around with you and when you get to nuetral just place the tape where the light should be. Funny aren't I.

Just like the guy that told me to carry some matches around for checking my fuel tank when its low...

Anyways...

Ill be taking off the speedo unit this afternoon to reroute the clutch cable because of the new bars I am installing.. Ill see if I can find the wire and give it the old jiggle to see what happens...

Well, as long as the battery is still connected, you can use your tongue to see if there is power going to the bulb.

I would guess it's either the bulb or the transmission position sensor.

Actually, I recommend testicular alligator clips for power testing. That way you can still see despite the smoke.

Just put my new lowered bars on, was a bit frusturated about the install so I didnt really look into the neutral light... Bars look great though

I also found a loose connection on the super wimpy sounding horn, a quick adjustment and now its pretty loud... Have not heard to many bike horns and I doubt its like a car horn but for a small electric horn on a 50cc motorcycle its pretty "annoying" when nearby... Which is great.

I THINK I recall jiggling the gear selector the first time it died and getting it back for a second, but Ill see if my Haynes manual has any troubleshooting or info on the neutral light system...

Still open to more ideas...

Thanks

The switch itself is by far the most frequent point of failure.
The bad news is that it may be INSIDE the transmission.

I assume I should find the cable for the light though and insure its connected and operational first... yes?

Hmm that does not sound to fun.... Opening the bike up...

I think Ill live with it for a bit but I wouldnt mind it working again...

Looking in the manual, not a whole lot of info...

A prudent thing to do, no doubt, and check the bulb too.

Then look for some wires near the transmission.
If you're lucky, the switch is outside....maybe behind some kind of cover...near the shifter.

Great...

And by the way, just went out to dinner on the MB5 with my dad and sister (both on his Harley...)

Longest ride to date, probably the fastest (mostly 40mph... a bit over occasionally)...

I love the new bars...
