| Well I've always loved motorcycles but just recently I have enough money to buy one. Im looking for a used bike. I was looking at craigs list and found a 1986 suzuki intruder 750 and wanted to know if that is too old or a good bike to buy. ALso a 2002 Suzuki 650 Savage wqith 17,500 miles for $1,750.00 is this too many miles and what should I be looking for? Thank you

| In general it would be a great starter bike but since we know zero about you it really does not help to make a recommendation. Fill out your profile please and tell us more about yourself.

| 17500 is not too many miles especially if the bike is in good shape. If in doubt take it to a mechanic and spend a few bucks to have someone check it out. I don't think they would charge more than a hours labor to look at it if that.

| Welcome, Talisa. Please do fill out your profile. I'd avoid any bike as old as a 1986. Even if it has low miles, rust, rubber degradation, and other decay may make it unreliable at best and a dangerous money pit at worst. Are you set on a cruiser? A standard or light sportbike like your friend's is also a good learning bike. Just don't needlessly limit your options.

| Thank you. Im not limiting my options though because i dont mind it not being a standard or a sport. It just has to fit comfortably. BTW Im located in Ft. Lauderdale,Fl so if anyone knows of someone selling a standard, cruiser or a sport let me know.

| Good for you. Riding is alot of fun. The Intruder will be a much more capable mount for freeway work. The Savage is a big single cylinder it will be more uncomfortable at higher (freeway) speeds. I've found Suzuki Intruders to be very reliable and if it's in good condition (go ahead and bring it to a mechanic if your boyfriend is inexperienced) don't automatically eliminate it from consideration. The treatment of the machine has much more to do with it's condition than just age. All motorcycles sit unused a much greater percentage of their life than cars do. A '92 machine can easilly be in much worse condition than an '86.

| Talisa, not sure you want to go that much money, but MSRP on a new C50T Suzuki is $8,999, and I think they sell them for less than that. It's basically just an Intruder with a smaller engine. Mine is a C90T, which IS the Intruder by a new name in '07.
