Default One lousy pic before my camera died- winter riding!

Here is a pic of my studded tire V65 Sabre (1985) that I have been riding this winter- before the camera gave up the ghost for good.

Now I am looking for a good camera, under 200 bucks, that doesn't freeze up and not work at -70F?

Started riding when it was about -35f in a cold snap a couple weeks ago, and rode up north as far as I could for a "bike and gear test" towards tok- which was -70f (the memo for canceled court in that little town was "there will be no more magistrates seated until the temp rises above -55f!!) My own thermometer would only hit -50f, and I turned around when I hit around 120miles out of town, came back home- everything worked perfectly!

I was anticipating some problems with the bike in this cold, and had a chase vehicle- my buddy driving my truck to rescue me if things went horribly wrong- but it was a completley uneventful trip.

If you count riding in -50f weather on a motorcycle on glare ice roads with studded dual sport tires on a 1985 vintage sport bike as 'uneventful" anyway.

But here is the pic!

Makes me feel sane. I know how tough it is to keep fingers and toes from freezing at even -20. That's just nuts. I wouldn't even enjoy riding wearing clothes that heavy.

No ideas on the camera. I'd keep the battery in a warm pocket and hope for the best. Or try film.

I only wear heated gloves and socks- the rest is normal under-gear, for the most part, but layered with armor as well. CE approved armor, kevlar and titanium is your friend!

I've been on the bike in the upper 30's and that was cold. It seems that no matter how warm you try to dress the cold will eventually get through in particular to the hands. I don't plan on being on the roads anytime it gets near freezing just because of the ice possibilities.

When it comes to thinking of doing something nobody else would ever try however, riding a motorcycle at -70 would never have crossed my mind.

That's just unreal, as Clint said -20 is bad enough, it sometimes hurts just to breath heavy, I can't even imagine what -50 is like.

I once spent two hours on a snowmobile at -30, and it seemed like I was still cold days later.

You must be one of those people that take it as a compliment when people tell you your nuts.

CruisingRam, might I suggest a digital camera? Or, is that what you had? There are lot of really cheap digitals under $200. Most of them take decent pictures. I even saw a kid's digital for $59 that took decent pictures. But, I'm having a senior moment and can't remember the name of it! I do remember it was in Wal Mart.

Gotta ask, is the Great Alaskan Bush Company still in business? Was in Anchorage many times while in the Air Force. It was our MOA during the cold war if the baloon went up. Take care!

Bush company will probably outlast the sun LOL-

Gotta watch the tire pressure with the 100 degree changes in temps= got a flat tire yesterday, on glare ice, adding a whole new dimension to my skill level!

I have nice heated gloves and a good balaclava. I can ride in < 0 degrees without issue.

Not a fan of icy overpasses. I'll drive in the truck on days below 40 or so.

Yeah, even heavy frost spooks me. That's why I want an enduro.

Much respect bro. I live in Florida so the should tell you how likely it is that I would be cought riding in anywhere in the area of freezing, much less -70, however I'm sure with you living there you must get accustomed to the weather and how to function in it.

Where'd you get the tires or did you stud them yourself? I've been thinking about studding a set of dual sport tires I have (for the haters(yes you can stud tires not designed for it, I've done it; at a tire shop no less)). How'd they do?

The coldest I've ridden was -55 in glenallen, ak and that was on a quad, I don't know that I'd want to try it on a bike.
