Default Motorcycle HATERS (AKA Wifes!)

How many of you are trying to or have over come the wifes/GF who are haters of the 2 wheel sort? I know this thread would of been an asset for me along time ago... roughly 3 years ago when I got the itch for a bike! What are some techniques you have used to persuade the in your relationship to see right side? Is there any advice you can offer up those who are in need of this desprate help?

Sorry I can't help. It was the wife who wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle and signed me up too.

...and now living happily ever after.

no, mine grew up riding the back of her dad's bike so she's cool with it. I'm trying to get her riding a bike herself though instead of always riding the back of mine

I feel as if I am the odd man out! But as for me to be of some help, I found one of my friends who had a Harley with a pillow top seating, and let her go for a ride with him! She was very reluctant, and she was not wanting to go, but then she got back she wanted to know when the next rally was so she could go. It opened her up to the idea, then I stayed constant on my wanting a bike. But I never bugged her about it! And a huge hint is to take out a cool million dollar life policy out on you...... but make sure she really loves you (nothing worse than being a money target in a relationship!)!

I'm sure you're not the odd man out. The perception on the dangers of motorcycling is there for all non riders, including myself before I had ever thrown a leg over a bike.

Here is an old thread regarding your significant other riding. http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/fo...rs-course.html

ya, honestly I get a lot of people who don't ride saying they don't think they ever could because it's so dangerous, blah, blah, blah. People who ride know it's more dangerous than driving, but the benefits are worth it.

Still trying to get the wife on the back of mine. But she is quite irrationally pigheaded about certain things. She said she would ride on the back but we couldn't take any turns...

But no, she doesn't hate.

My wife tolerates me having a bike because she knows how much I enjoy it. She is not a fan of motorcycles in general, but she doesn't try to stop me from riding.

Yeah, but the problem is there is absolutely no way to get to a straight bit of tarmac without taking a turn...

Same here.

She doesn't ride and doesn't want to. Someone very close to her was killed in a motorcycle accident (sort of). While riding he got separated form his bike (somehow, as it was 100 yards away) and in a daze , he walked out into traffic and was hit and killed by a car.

Is took me 2 years to convince my wife to let me get my bike. It helped that 2 of my Brothers ride but, there were extenuating circumstances. The biggest thing to overcome was the fact that a few years back I went out and bought a new boat without telling her. I just kept bothering her until she finally gave in. I let her make a major purchase about 6 months earlier so it was also my turn. She will go out with me once in a while but I can't get her to ride.

In the beginning she didn't like the idea, I found out about the MSF course and I took it, I finally bought my first bike and she rode with me every now and then, then I got a new bike and she rode with me every now and then. She started learning how to ride on me uncles Vstar 650 and then we bought her her own, a Suzuki S40.

There should be a indifferent choice as well LOL. My wife doesn't hate them, she used to enjoy riding on them more than she does now due to her restless leg syndrome. I do think she's a little jealous of it at times...

My wife encouraged me to get back into biking a couple of years ago, and within 6 months after I bought one, she got one as well.

My wife doesn't care one way or the other, as long as I don't have more than the occasional wreck and I don't get hurt. She (like me) thinks that it costs a little more than it should (all toys come with a price tag), but she doesn't hate it or love it.

She won't ride with me anymore, but that's okay.

No issues here, she has been around bikes all her life, so she rides too. But the gun topic.....she never understands...

My SO rides a Softtail Deluxe. She rides more than I do these days.
