Default Are your roads bad ??

The roads around here are the pits. I need full motocross suspension on my bike, w/ about 10 inches of travel, lol. Nearly every road has major potholes, crumbling asphalt, dips, humps etc. Since drilling is so big here, there are always cuts across the roads when they lay pipeline. It's getting rough even in a truck. You really have to pay attention to the road when riding. I hit a hump the other day I didn't see, it was like a mini ramp, I got air on the Harley. Geez...First thing I'm gonna do w/ my next bike is have the suspension modified.

Yup, terrible. Lots of twists and turns. Frustrated guys on choppers with ape-hangers who have to keep backing up 'cuz they can't take the corners.

In Memphis, the roads have held up fairly well, but we haven't had any ice or anything yet, just 10-20 nights below freezing.

riding down here in Florida is like playing golf. You're always trying to avoid the sand traps and water hazards.

Generally speaking, roads are ok here.
But I did once step into a twisty road that was hardly used anymore since a new by-pass road had opened. It was FULL of pit holes, especially in tight corners as it was always the motorcyclists' fav twisty. But since the by-pass road had opended, the holes were never filled.

Now THAT was really scary!

Here in western NC near Asheville (Marion) we have some fabulous roads for biking. Very little traffic out in our rural areas and the roads are generally kept in very good condition. It is rare to see a pot hole or any other sort of problem. I think we must have one of the best cycling areas in the country.

Our weather doesn't get too hot or humid in the summer and stays fairly mild during the winter. We get cold snaps where our night time lows can drop into the teens, but wait a day or two and it's likely to be back up in the 50s during the daytime! And of course when autumn arrives it is hard to imagine more beautiful riding than cruising through our foothills when the foliage is at full color!

the roads here are fairily good for riding, IMO-(from like May till salt/sands laid down for the snow we get--late November/early December)......then starts the off season.

It's my home town is southeast Iowa that really needs the work....ALOT of the roads are older than I am and have had quick/crappy, short lasting patch work done on them....not very enjoyable whilst on a my scoot.

Ya know if you hit a smaller hardshell turtle just right it will zing off the tire across the road like a hockey puck.

We have aligator snaping turtles down here. You don't want to get anywhere near those with on or off the bike.

Default Potholes?

Having just moved to the midwest, I had assumed that those big things in the road were half-pipes for the kids. Now you are telling me they are potholes? Geeeez, what next?

You going to tell me all that black shiny stuff is ice?

Don't underestimate the black shiny stuff. My girlfriend and I were on the Autobahn this morning, and came across an accident involving 6 cars. One was turned 180° and facing traffic, one was on it's side, and the rest were pretty mucked up. The ambulance and police were already on the scene, but it was clear that all of the vehicles had hit a patch of ice and lost traction.

This was a slight downhill section of the Autobahn, with a slight right curve and as speed limit of 120 kmh / 75 mph.
