| Found second gear by accident ![]() | I have a one car garage in the basement that has been used for lawn equipment and storage. However, I've cleaned all the junk out and want to put together the ultimate motorcycle garage!!! (with the wife's blessing!!!) I was wondering if anyone else has fixed up their garage? What pitfalls and advice would you have? How bout some pictures too? |

| What are the measurements on the garage? Of course a work bench, good stool, stereo and wallboard are a must. As is the mini fridge, all the tools and so on and so on and so on

| I'm a sucker for a garage with a carpeted area and a couch (and heat, of course). Someday....

| Good lighting is a must. Fluorescent tubes are very good for overhead lighting, but be sure to use both the kitchen/bathroom tubes and the bright white. The kitchen/bathroom tubes give a much warmer, less harsh light, which is a much friendlier tone and easier on the eyes. I buy the cheap four foot shop lights that you can pick up at home improvement stores for under $10. Most of them now come right out of the box with plug in cords making installation a snap. You mentioned that your new garage is going to be in the unfinished basement. My experience is that such places are usually very damp. You will want to have plenty of ventilation for the summer and/or a dehumidifier. I have a similar basement/garage area and it's not unusual for metal equipment to be coated with condensation when some warm damp weather sets in. |

| This is what I had built last year to fit all my toys. 1200 wonderful sq feet of garage. Everything fits and still have room for huge work bench. I am truly blessed. Jim Last edited by Jimmydee; 01-17-2008 at 09:33 PM. |

| Third gear and cruising ![]() | I plan on having an air compressor in the corner with a couple manifolds throughout the garage. It would be nice to have a strong enough beam overhead to be able to put a chain hoist up. All associated tools and work benches are a given. But an area safe for grinding and welding would be great.

| If you do much work on bikes, this is one thing that I think is a must. We use the one that has a drop tail on it, making rear wheel changes easy as it lets the wheel drop straight down. Works w/ ATV's and even riding mowers. Height is fully adjustable, and locks safely. Motorcycle Lifts Hydraulic Motorcycle Lift Table Motorcycle Lift Jacks - DerekWeaver.com

| Found second gear by accident ![]() | The garage is 14 wide by 27 long. Moisture is not a problem in my basement. It's bone dry. I have cinderblock along one wall, and drywall along the other two. it's not very big, but for a motorcycle or two, it should be fine. Besides, if I ever need more room i still have a two car garage upstairs. My wife bought me a mini fridge for christmas, I have a small air compressor, motorcycle jack, and lots of tools. Sadly I do not own a toolchest and need one badly. most of my tools are just laid out on the shelves i have. Now here's another question, What color should I paint the walls? I've thought about a bright red on the lower half, yellow on the upper, and stenciling flames where the two colors meet. I'm also thinking about drywalling over the cinderblock. | OH The luxury! All i wanted for chrismas was a covered work area Must have been bad as santa did not bring me one. A sink with hot and cold water might be a good idea as you don`t have to go through the house to clean your hands.

| My garage is 30 feet wide and 24 feet deep with 14 foot ceilings!! I have two work benches, a FULL size fridge with beer, two heat sources, a 30,000 BTU propane heater mounted on the wall and a 20,000 BTU kerosene heater. It's all drywalled, insulated and painted. My light source are 6 twin tube (12 lights) each tube 8 feet long industrial floruriesent lights......good down below 30º.... I also built a loft 4 feet deep and 30 feet wide for storage for the wife, it's 8 feet off the floor. It also has 2 garage doors 5 panel high on each, 6 windows and a side door..... I full size 5.1 Dolby Surround system with Progressive scan DVD player......and a telephone. An air compressor connected to a hose reel mounted on the wall and a battery charging station I built. I keep my pickup truck, wifes new 2007 Equinox, 92- 750 Nighthawk, riding mower(s) tiller and all kind of crap in there.... Oh yea, I have a stainless steel electric smoker in there too. So I can make jerky, or smoke some ribs or pulled pork!!!! I am thinking of adding an airconditioner?? But, we alway's have a strong breeze in the summer, blowing off the bay across the turf farm out front. dan |
