Just remember insurance companies are NOT out for your own good. They will screw you every chance they get. Do NOT sign a release. Often they are on the check and your endorsement is the release. If you find more that's wrong, you want them to still cover it.

Good luck man. Glad you're ok. Great attitude toward it all!

Yes, as a man that's hod LOTS of wrecks (most in cages, knock on wood), take a little advice:

1) Make them pay for your jacket and gloves;
2) Take the check to the body shop and have them converse with the insurance company about whether or not the money's big enough to fix your bike right;
3) Tell the insurance company that you need rental car reimbursement . . . nothing fancy, but you need a ride; and
4) If you got hurt in any way, ask about compensation for your time and pain.

It works. I'm a pro. I don't get the "pain payment," but I get the rental car.

[EDIT] A lot of times I pocket the cash, but I usually get hit in my "money maker," which is an old totalled-out truck I drive when I'm in the city. I'm an idiot magnet in traffic, for some reason.

Remember this: Since they aren't your insurance company, they really have no course for revenge against not. It's not like they're going to raise your rates for making them pay what they owe.

Just received the check in the mail for the bike. It's about $1100. Hopefully that's enough to cover basically the whole left side. I'm going to go get a quote at the local dealership here before I cash the check just to make sure it's enough, and I'll make them write me another check if the first one isn't enough.
