Newbie questions

Hi, i just joined this site, and i'm getting a bike soon. But i need to know some stuff. They're gonna be obvious questions to you guys but since im new and i don't know much i would appreciate it if you helped me out.
1. I'm getting a bike, i want a sport bike, but don't wanna kill myself on insurance, i was thinking katana, are there any other sport bikes that have lower insurance?
2. I was wondering, would getting an atv (manual of course) be fine to practice on?
im not sure if i have other questions but if you could answer these i'd would really appreciate it.

Hey, welcome.

Read around the site to find out about bike options. It's been discussed to hades and back.

As far as the ATV plan, they usually don't have a clutch, and the controls are different. You'd learn the rythm, though, and that's the tough part. As an owner of several manual tranny cars and trucks, I can tell you that once you learn the rythm of a manual with a clutch, you can drive anything.

You really should sign up for a Motorcycle Safetey Course. They supply the bikes, and you'll learn the fundamentals the right way. Statistics show that the worst riders are those that are taught by a friend, or *gasp* themselves.

i found an atv with a clutch, and i live in canada so can i still do dat test?

I WOULD SUGGEST A KATANA 600 IF YOU ARE A RELATIVELY BIG GUY, OR A GS500F IF YOUR RELATIVELY SMALL OR NORMAL SIZED.

how much is insurance for the gs500f? i hope its not like the gsxr's or cbrs lol

I DONT BELIEVE ITS LIKE THE GIXXERS...ITS 500CC'S. ALOT OF PEOPLE HERE HAVE THE GS500F SO THEY COULD PROBABLY TELL YOU.

Depends on your driving record, number of years having a motorcycle license, insurance company, and the state usually determines most of the cost. Cali is expensive, Wyoming is cheaper kinda thing.

I'm a newb lookin at the Katana 600 too. A couple of my friends have told me that i'm gonna be too big for that bike as i'm 6-5 250 but hey...you gotta learn on something right. In all honesty though, I don't really think the size is gonna be an issue for me. I've also been looking around on insurance and have received quotes anywhere from 75 bucks/mo all the way to 125/mo. That's gonna be my largest hangup with the whole thing as i don't really wanna spend too much on insurance. Progressive was helpful and offered a variety of insurance options. If you're financing this bike, you may wanna see what the lender requires as far as insurance goes because progressive may be able to match whatever the minimum requirements are.

ok well i just bought a suzuki katana 600and it should be coming on monday. Hope it will run as planned, unfortunately i'm gonna be driving without my license lol, hope theres no cops around lol.

Find out their number using the net, Duh. If you're not going to be licensed when you take delivery, find a friend with a truck or trailer and get it home that way. Nothing worse than buying a new bike and not riding it because the police took it, or you crash it from lack of experience. Consider yourself warned.

my father can drive it, my brother owns an rx-8, he'll drive us there, and me and my dad will come back on the bike
