| So there I was Friday night rush hour on my commute home at a light with cars stopped all around me, when I hear the one directly behind me rev up a little bit. Before I could even finish the thought “that can’t be good,” BANG! The force jolted me forward, but I didn’t drop it or hit the car in front of me. It took me a few seconds before I thought to hit the flashers, shut it off and get off & look. Buy the time I did and looked at the damage, the light had turned green, I look back and there is this person still sitting behind the wheel staring at me as if to say, “hey bud the light’s green, lets go!” I pointed directly at him and then with the same hand gave him my best Keanu Reeves “Matrix” motion to “come here.” He got out slowly and came around front asking if there was any damage? I must have scared the crap out of him, he was a just a young kid that didn’t know what to do, and here I am dressed in full gear all black with reflective piping, yelling instructions through my helmet (didn’t think to lift the visor). Upon his question, a host of smart ass responses filled my head, but in my anger all I could muster was, f.*** yeah! I instructed him to follow me to the parking lot next to the intersection and we’d take it from there, - cops, reports, etc… Found out from the claims adjuster today that he was looking at the two lanes next to us that were left turn only and when they started moving, so did he. Anyway, visible damage is to the fender, fender support and a scratch to the brake light. The fender support or rather the bolts for the light unit are less than a half inch from the tire, and probably an eighth or less when I’m sitting on it. I rode it home slowly and didn’t feel anything rubbing, but I’m going to see if I can get the tire replaced anyway, for safety’s sake, of course. Just thankful that it wasn’t worse… -Andy |

| Glad to hear you weren't hurt man! The bike can be repaired a lot easier than you. I can relate w/ 'the word' being uttered... I think I would have the same reaction.

| Love how you scared the crap out of him.. I can just see that whole thing played out in my head.. In that kind of situation I would use the 'Scary Motorcyclist' sterotype to my advantage. Just stay on the bike, light up the tire and spin it around 180 and face him with it before ya got off hehe......

| I talked to his insurance company yesterday and had to ask for a replacement vehicle for the duration of the repairs. I said I preferred a bike, but he said that there weren't any places around that did that, at least in the area I live in. I ended up with a Mazda 3. Anyway, I know you can rent Harley's, but are there any places in the US that will rent bikes as part of an insurance claim? -Andy |
