Most of us aren't "bikers", not that the public notices.

So you've got the biker species, the motorcyclist species and the squid species.

Am I getting this right?

Again...not that the public notices......

I think Kay hit the nail on the head, the rest of the world groups us all as bikers

Here in Quebec we've got bikers, and biker gangs (ie. Hells Angels). The public pretty much can distinguish between the two, but only insofar as figuring that a biker gangster is likely to drive below the speed limit because they don't want to be hassled by the cops

The interesting thing is that I've found is that more "bikers" will stop to help you than motorcyclists. My point is don't judge the book by its cover. And what is a squid when referring to bikes?

I guess I missed something somewhere. The first guy looked just like most of my
friends. We. Unlike most it seems. consider anyone on a motorcycle a biker.
If one needs to be so pretentious as to name themselves differently. I must assume it's because they judge them selves as being above an apparent (to them) low life long haired beard wearing miscreant.
Oh and before you jump to any conclusions about me or my friends. Steve. One of my friends. Well he looks a lot like that guy in picture 1. He is also the ceo of one Indianapolis largest Accounting firms. Complete with masters degree and all.
He is a biker. Just like me and you.

A lot of my friends look like pic #1. They are not biker gangsters but normal people that choose this look for a lifestyle. They are professionals, tradesman, laborers, grandfathers, husbands, sons, individual riders, group riders, pgr, etc.. I don't have tattoos or long hair but I can fit into the same settings as they do.

I agree with you Mike.

Squid is a label usually hung on someone doing something that would earn them a careless, or reckless driving ticket. Wheelies, stoppies, standing on there seat, passing on the shoulder, etc.

Again, note the subtle differences.

One is ready to ride a motorcycle, the other is wearing no body protection other than "fashion" chaps. His helmet looks totally Snell rated as well.

Again. Your choice of views. You assume that if one isn't wearing all the atire you deem correct for riding then they are irresponsible.

If you want to wear that helmet go for it. If I"m not in a state that requires me to wear a helmet I don't wear one. If not. I wear leather. bibs and a jacket.
Nothing more is needed. And depending on the time of year. I won't wear that much. I want to arrive alive. Not well done cooked and dead because I passed out on the road.

Oh and just a heads up. until the recent past. There was nothing more than leather.

I make a choice. You make a choice. Don't judge me because I didn't make your choice. .

On a side note.
I went to a rally last year. Actually 5 or 6 rallies.
But one particular had 30,000 attendees. Bikers like you first picture.
Many rode over 500 miles to the rally. Personally, I rode 450 as did 10 of my friends. We all arrived there and back home alive. Wearing as much as the guy in the first photo.
Are we more careful. Could be. We ride cruisers. Not sport race bikes.
We ride at a normal speed and take care to be careful. Unlike some in the sport community whom don't seem to care how they ride.

Having personally experienced brain trauma, I highly recommend something a bit more substantial than a baseball cap.

No one here is judging you, but the rest of the non-riding world will make desisions about you based purely on your appearance.

Who is judging whom here? Pot, meet kettle. Oh, I see you're both black.

Well judging yes. With reason. Yes.
Just log onto youtube and look at all the motorcycle videos of wrecks, wheelies, nose stands, ?
I don't see one cruiser in the bunch. I do however see countless wrecks and stunts being done. Carelessly. In my mind. By sport or crotch rocket riders..

As for the brain trauma. I won't argue that point. I run the risk of being hurt. Or not. If God want's me. I don't care what I'm wearing. I'm dead.

Yup. They sure do. I like it that way. I win more. I also saved 4,000.00 on my last truck purchase because the sales man thought, he can't afford it anyways. So he low balled the price he gave me. Then laughed when I said take another grand off and it's a sale. He did. I wrote a check.. He didn't like that..
