I think it would be safe to assume that there are more sport riders armed with a camera than cruiser riders. Your stats are flawed.

I wasn't aware that this was an exclusive club. So I can't talk because I don't wear body armor?

Sorry but I love this message board because of it's diversity. I ride responsibly and safely.

This isn't political, this is a discussion. What fun is discussion if everyone says the same thing?

I'd like to see a copy of these rules posted somewhere then.
I looked in new riders and the faq and didn't see reference to board rules.
As for safe riding. My state says it's safe to ride without a helmet. If following the laws of my state isn't correct then I guess you need to ban me.
My self and many Older riders in this world fought long and hard to get the helmet laws repealed. Many of us are still alive. Without those helmets.
And again. The law (The Law) of our states says we don't have to wear them.
In a state that says I must wear it. I will.
So you do what you need to do. I'll be here. Or I'll be somewhere else. Your decision.

Talk all you want. Just don't talk about lack of gear. It causes threads to get abusive and they end up getting locked.

I am just telling you that this is the way WE administer the board. We don't ban anyone for not wearing gear but we lock threads that go on about peoples freedom to not wear gear for reasons that are obvious.

Who's being abusive? And I wasn't speaking specifically of freedom to not wear gear, I was speaking of peoples perception of them. If that's wrong, then I apologize. I applaud people that wear their gear. I applaud people who don't..I applaud everyone that rides responsibly.

Is there a specific thread that was locked so I can look at it as an example?

Just wanted to fix this... your state says it's LEGAL to ride without a helmet. Anyone that told me riding a motorcycle without a helmet is 'safe' I would label as a #@$@ing idiot.

We missed it. When? Just now. When will then be now? Soon.

The last time I checked riding motorcycles with a helmet is safer than riding one without a helmet. That being said riding motorcycles is dangerous no matter how you ride and with whatever gear due to the people in cages that "can't see you". If you want to be safe don't get out of bed.

I have not seen this mentioned, maybe I missed it. The guy in pic #1 is not riding his bike just posing for a pic. I know that when I am off my bike I stow my gear. Pic #2 the guy is riding his bike and apparently signaling his group for a turn and he has gear on because he is riding. To be honest I seriously doubt that biker dude has any gear stowed in his bags but I could be wrong, who knows?

I wear my gear for more reasons than safety although the reasons I suppose could be tied into a safety factor. First, I wear gloves because I have been hit in the hands more than once by large bugs. Second, I wear a full face helmet because I have have been hit in the face shield more than once by large bugs and close calls with birds. I wear a jacket for those large bugs and birds that miss my hands and face. I think next year I will wear knee pads. I had some pretty hard hits from flying critters this past summer. Maybe you guys that don't wear helmets live in an area void of large bugs and birds chasing large bugs but here in MN they can be thick at times. So if you wish to ride in this area without gear be prepared to get an occasional pounding.

Bottom line.. their are bad apples in both sport bikes and cruisers.. and if a judgment is needed to be made then make it on the individual and not the whole. Gear or lack of doesn't make you an irresponsible rider.. I wear a mesh jacket due to the weather and humid conditions here. I also figure to get a due amount of road rash if the time comes I am off the bike and on the pavement.. but down here I don't see any cruisers hardly wearing any gear beyond the helmet. Road rash hurts at 55 mph as does at 80 mph.
The biker image comes from media and movie portals.. and really does come down to the person and not the group as a whole.

(Tosses 2 pennies on the table and does a wheelie out of the room.. weeeeeee)
Well put.

No one yet. If you want to find threads about helmet use, do a search.

People, I am just making a recommendation to please not talk about not wearing gear. I am not calling out anyone. Holy crap, some people are defensive.

Oh and to point out a thread that was locked?...

Ta Da.

Locked
