Default USA TODAY article

I think this article is about a week old, but...

About a year or so ago when Mary Peters was selected as Secretary of Transportation I was glad to hear she was a rider. (there's an old post around here somewhere where I expressed my feelings about it). I thought she might do good by us riders.

Well the following artical on USATODAY's website seems to show we might have an advocate after all. Hope the efforts described in the article help save at least a few lives.

On a side note...some of the comments by "non-riders" in response to the article are pretty darn brainless and disrespectful to riders.

HERE'S THE ARTICLE: DOT seeks to lower motorcycle deaths, educate riders - USATODAY.com

Peace.

A rider to head DOT!!

That sounds great to me!
And what she's trying to do sounds great too.

I wish her the very best of luck in her position.

I know you're joking about that + I'm sure it would never happen.
But that sure would save some lives on the hwy.

Sounds like the usual thing Blame the riders of motorcycles who are involved in accidents for not being trained enough. Have the same thing in the UK. and when they use statistics they don`t say that the other vehicle involved was at fault. IMO all persons wanting to drive CARS should have passed a test for motorcycles and been riding bikes for two years before they get to drive a car as the usual thing said by car drivers after an accident with bikes is sorry mate did not see you. Its not the bike riders who need better training so much though it does help but car drivers WHO DON`T LOOK for bikes or have the attitude that it is only a bike they will get out of my way.

One other thing I CANT STRESS THE USE OF PROTECTIVE HELMETS AND CLOTHING ENOUGH as they do save lives, and injury as i have come of twice and damaged my motorcycle helmet both times.
Thats my soap box moment over.

In most places I've lived, HOV lanes are MOV lanes too. YMMV.

I've seen that when I travel.
There are no HOV lanes in my city, but I do notice HOV lanes being used by MC's while in other cities.
