With the weather starting to chill down I was just wondering how many of you ride in cold weather? At what temp. do you stop riding.
I will ride all winter. Snow is the only thing that will stop me.

I ride usually on weekends until they start salting the roads. Then I winterize and pack it away. -Red

This is my first season of riding. I ride back and forth to work which is 25 miles one way of mostly freeway. I just got my M50 so I want to ride it. I found that 45 degrees F is about my lower limit.

Right now I go until about 40. Below 40 and I get real cold real fast, and a cold biker tends to not be as safe a biker.
Now, if I get some better cold weather gear, I may ride all winter (save for rain/snow/ice).

I purchased some Gerbings electric clothing and man does it work nice. I have been riding everyday now and If I start getting cold I just turn up the heat.

I have to agree--it's hard to pay attention to the road when your shivering.

God knows the guy in the bmw suv with the heated seats and the cell phone to the ear isn't looking out for you and it's hard to see him when your teeth are chattering soo hard your eyes bounce!!

I'll ride down into the hig 30's, but no further. Mid 30's, and you're asking for some hidden frost/icey stuff on the road that you might not see.

Once there's salt out, I'm done. Too much of a hassle to ride in it, and I don't like the idea of rust.

For the record, I run a set of firstgear winter gloves, my joe rocket/boulevard leather with the liner in, and a set of tourmaster textile pants. (over my regular pants, they cut the wind nice)

I ride all winter too but my lowest limit will be about 40. I use tons of those hot patches stuck all over myself to keep me warm. Usually they stay warm for the whole day.

I even use small sized ones to stick inside my gloves. They are winter gloves but my hands get all numb and start hurting when they're too cold.

with electric wear, down to mid 30's is doable. After that, I just don't trust the road.

<story>
Riding my V65 Sabre in England back in 1995. It was DAMNED cold, somewhere around the end of Dec. then. But, a clear and bright day. So a day not to be wasted over there! On the way to work, riding on small rutted back road, as I was heading downhill with the road bending to the left both of my tires crossed over into the slight depression of the ruts. This is where the, then, liquid form of water had collected earlier the previous night. Apparently during the night it had turned into its solid form and both wheels slide to the right exactly the width of the rut and back onto solid, dry, tarmac. Needless to say I had to change my shorts when I got to work. But as I look back, it was cool that the rotating wheels kept the bike upright nicely during this little maneuver.
</story>

So yeah, if the ground is cold enough to let ice form, no motorcycling for me.

Once it dips below 70....I'm done. After that....it's plug in the electric gear.

Does anyone know what temp the stock tires are rated for?

I had summer tires on my car and when it got around 40degrees they got hard and acted like ice skates on dry road.
Do the stock M50 tires have a min. temp. limit?

Below 40F I'm done - fortunately that doesn't happen often here

Low forties and high thirties are my limit. If it looks like there might be ice I back off and go home. Last year my first winter with a bike my father-in-law and I got caught in about 1 inch of slush on the road and that was a bit nerve wracking. Other than that I ride when I find the time rain sun or cold.

Got Gerbing gloves this year so I'll see how low I can stand it...supposed to get the jacket liner for christmas. In case your wondering why I need them in Texas, it's because some of the best riding comes when the fronts blow thru and the weather is more predictable for a few days. I ride in almost 70 miles to work at sometimes 3AM and I used to freeze my extremities to the bones. Just with the heated gloves I am 110% more comfortable down at 38° running 70-75 for over an hour non-stop. I have found that in the past the cold didn't set in till about 30 miles out and it was hell the rest of the way in, now with my Gerbing's I'm good all the way in...

Damn I sound like a testimonial on a infomercial, (in a monotone voice, arms to the sides, standing stiff and upright, while looking into the camera)" I can't bee-lieve how good they work, you too should get Gerbing's heated clothing and...'feel the warmth'..." Hahaha...LOL...sorry I need sleep...
