OK, hold on a sec.........let me put on my tin foil hat and tune in to the neather world to see what the future holds............

Only YOU can answer that question because none of US have had a chance to see it, inspect it or ride it. You didn't mention the price but that would be a big factor in YOUR decision.

I've had Japanese motorcycles go 135,000 miles. I've also had them blow up at 20,000 miles. The overall condition of the bike and how it was maintained is more important than the miles, and the price should be well below blue book due to the twice-average mileage. If it was in good shape with good maintenance documentation, at a nice low price, I'd get it.

50,000 miles is around the time you can expect some of the major bearings and seals to need attention, such as: fork seals and oil, steering head bearings, swingarm bearings, wheel bearings, etc. Depending on the level of maintenance, engine rebuilds can start at around that time, too. It's somewhat risky, and I'd personally look for something "younger", unless you're up to the challenge and the price is right.

ok thanks for your info here is more on the bike it is a 1999 Yamaha v star 1100 it looks new no leaks that i can find and the motor runs smooth it also has over 3000 in accesories it also rides very smooth and the guy told me I could take it to a local motorcycle shop to have it inspected and the price is 2500 dollars and the blue book value is 4030 with out the mileage factor and addons it was also ridden by an older man who said the only reason it has so many mile is for the fact that he rode over 2oo miles a day to and from work so it is freeway miles does this play any factor

Sounds like a helluva deal to me. Like I said, though, don't expect it to go another 50K without some parts replacement.

I wouldn't say this bike is a "helluva deal" but it's okay.

Remember, you are paying 2500 up front, but bear in mind that you could easilyt spend $1000 on repairs (that's right, plural, more than one repair) over the next year or two that could mitigate the "helluva deal" concept.

If you buy it, keep that in mind. Keeping in mind the previous posts, fork seals, engine bearings and the like.

Last but not least, drive it like a bike with 50 k on it; none too hard, if you want the bike to get there in one piece.

The only remaining question that I have is: Should someone who has not yet mastered the relatively simple art of PUNCTUATION and the concept of sentences, even be considering the relatively complex task of riding a motorcycle??

And you don't have to take English courses in school?

This is an international forum, and not everyone here has English as their primary language. Using proper spelling and grammar helps ensure that everyone here understands what you are asking and has a chance to provide an answer. The power of this forum is that we have people from all over the planet, with all kinds of knowledge and experience. But in order for your question to be understood, you have to make an effort to write it in such a way that it can be understood.

Alternatively, you can write your rambling questions in English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Taiwanese, that should pretty much cover the majority of our members.

Is that really twice the average miles?? 50K on a 1999?

So should I expect to get low bucks for my '06 Star when I sell? I'm, at 18K now. so when I sell in about a year, I'll have between 26-32, depending on if I sell in Dec or March.

Once you hit 30 k on a bike like the v-star, you may as well drive it to 60 k.

Only Harley's retain their value, and lately, those have been dropping ever so slowly.

Besides, if you're driving the bike that much, it can't be all that bad, now can it?

<Should someone who has not yet mastered the relatively simple art of PUNCTUATION…>

Yep – best wrench I ever knew couldn’t do the math to figure gear ratios (we painted different colors on the sprockets, so he knew at a glance), but were he alive today, I run the bike halfway across the country to have him work on it…

Grammatical skills only titillate librarians and my freshman comp. teacher – thankfully my girlfriend wrote my papers… I was too busy riding…

lol. I hate to continue the derailing of this thread, but keep in mind that proper grammar and punctuation are a courtesy to the people who will be reading your post. If you at least make some attempt at, it makes your posts much more understandable. Also, it avoids having people derail your topic with posts like this one!

nutz, it's been derailed. Nobody knows what it's going to take to get it back on track.

Essentially, as the engine gets larger, runs slower, higher mileage is acceptable.

On an 1100, 50 k isn't too high, but it's getting there.

That, and the fact that if you keep your eyes peeled, you can find something as nice or better for another 500 bucks. Unless you don't have another 500 bucks, then go for it.

Post back at 5000 mile intervals to see how she holds up.

good luck.
