Default Airbag Jacket Saves Life

CNN

I find it odd that he's making the news as our first crash-test dummy . . . at 140 mph. No mention of a ticket.

Ouch. Yeah that's a tad fast.

As always, there's no way to really assess the jacket's role. Many riders have come off at that speed and walked away.

If the guy had hit a car at that speed, no jacket would have helped. I think it's marketing only.

I wonder if he got a free replacement jacket for plugging it on the news. Some pretty good advertising right there.

I'd say. Unless the car that cut him off happened to have a trampoline on it

Actually, the 140 mph is the more telling piece of data. At 140 mph, you're traveling about 210 feet per second, so dude flew a little less than half a second. Had he catapulted, he could have flown for 2-3 seconds, which would mean he'd be over a football field (maybe even two) away!

What a wuss. Probably low-sided 'cuz he was skirred.

[EDIT] 1/2 a second airborn at 140 mph? I smell a rat. One of those nunbers is wrong. He should have traveled farther after the impact. Had he been stopped by a hard object at that speed, he probably wouldn't be talking (intelligibly) today.

. . . or "accidentally" slipped a "1" in front of the "40."

"Did I do that?!?"

I wish my boss would accidentally put a 1 in front of my salary.

It said the impact speed was 140mph. I suspect the closing speed was 140, and that the two vehicles may have been going 70 each.

I think he thumped his bike at a gasstation, accidentaly lit a match and poored gas all over the place. He then quoted Arnold: I'll be back ! Then pulled the pin because he knew he'd filled it up with helium, and he flew away with minor scuffs and landed on a biiiig donut with his arse.

Quite impressive shizznit

Mmm... his testimony is '100 yards', which equals 300 feet. He may, however, just have misspoke or didn't understand the inability to interchange feet and yards.

maybe he got confused with including wind speed, atmospheric pressure, % humidity, and including the man in german that belched at the time of impact for judging how fast/far he flew?

I agree, Dave. Even if the government doesn't actually pass more legislation as time goes by, insurance companies will make it virtually impossible to own a motorcycle without a myriad of protective gear by increasing rates for those that do not wear it. It's the same way with increasing rates on those that smoke, are obese, etc.

Those jackets are having a lot of promotions in bike gear shops here. My friend bought one but it's rather inconvenient cuz you have to unplug the jacket to disconnect it from the bike BEFORE you get off and leave the bike. She forgot to do that and *puff!!*. She blew up like a baloon and now we all have to her diflate the jacket to ride.

That's when I knew that jacket isn't for me.

BTW, once it puffs up, you have to buy a new tank and fit it in pockets made for these tanks in the jacket.
