LOL. Hypocrite. Yeah. I can`t change the entire world at once, so I`m a hypocrite. I never use those terms, btw.

Landry, I get the impression you go out of your way to be non-PC. It`s a little disappointing. "Context" is rarely a viable excuse, and your examples are also rare extremes.

There is a time and a place for joking around. Most of my friends have great senses of humor so I'm more than sure a few slurs have been thrown around but always in a light-hearted manner. However, everything CAN be contextual so in that sense Mark is right. Everything isn't black and white. It depends on the situation. On an open forum with lots of different people, sure you may wanna practice some self-restraint but in person in a closed environment.... that's a different story altogether ( remembers Airplane! and pictures everyone reading this thread saying "that's a different story" at the same time ).

Anyhow, I don't think Mark is wrong but I've also seen a time or two when certain slurs would be less appropriate. I have thick skin but I know plenty of people who are sensitive to such matters.

To each their own.

Me personally, I just go ride and then I don't have to say anything to anyone just me and the wind and the motor......

Maybe it's on a bicycle,a scooter, a ninja, a gixxer, my cruiser M50, maybe a harley in the future and maybe even a trike.... either way it's riding in something other than a car.

I love cruising the back roads on the M50 listening to some old rock music and wishing everyone could just move along...

It's all about a ride and the freedom to ride......

And if ya ride 2 up for very long your wife or girlfriend will want to be comfortable.. so yeah a nice comfy cruiser to keep her happy.... cuz if she aint happy you ain't gonna be happy.

Until then it's sunglasses on bugs in the hair and teeth , t-shirt flapping and blue jeans blowing in the wind....

Damn it's good to have choices and we all have them pick your fights with care you may not get to fight another day...

. . . after 5 years, I get this? You "have an impression" that I go out of my way to be non-PC? C'mon man . . .

I honestly don't care enough to go out of my way to make people mad for no reason. If I do choose to make someone mad, it's because I've been provoked, and I'm not going to lower myself to racial slurs (unless I'm responding to one).

I prefer to pick on things that are immediately evident about the person . . . preferably something that I can tell will piss them off immediately.

I think you're a good guy, but you've made it clear on many occasions that you don't think any degree of political correctness is necessary based on the possibility that a person is just too sensitive. I'm just not sure hot do deal with that, I guess. I don't take it to the extreme, and I certainly have an awareness of context. I simply find some things worth the effort, and this is one of them.

10-4. I guess we all see things differently, and I'm sure your PC is appreciated by those around you.

Let me clarify: I don't walk around using the "n-word" and all sorts of other connotations under the guise that others should get over it. I really (really!!) had no idea that Chinese folks were offended by the word "oriental." Had I known that, I never (in a million years) would have said that to this girl. As I said, I like her tons (she's a very sweet person, and my daughter instantly warmed to her as an infant) and I wouldn't ever do anything to insult her.

I just get irritated with people getting their feelings hurt over words that weren't meant to sting. People can tell who is trying to push their buttons and who isn't.

As far as my Chinese friend, she didn't take offense at the time, but I bet she'd be hurt if I said it again, so I won't.

To clarify my position, I was never offended. I was trying to educate Vinnie and anyone else who'd listen. That's all. Some take information as an affront automatically. For me, it's always about education. I've been labeled a lifetime student by my family (and not just because I took 6-1/2 years to earn my B.S. ).

I think I need one of those....

BTW, I personally don't mind if people called me "oriental", "asian" or "Japanese"....or whatever suits them. I just don't think it's a big enough thing to worry about.

But then again, I'm probably not sensitive (at all!).

Oh did I tell you guys that my bike friends call me "alien"? LOL
I guess it's because of my mixed culture but sometimes they think I come from a different planet!!

And even that is still OK with me.

Back to the original topic.
I agree with the original post. I don't mind a bit about others doing what they like, but I hate to add comfy things on my bike. I refused to even attach a radio even I am licensed just so that I can hear the wind and my engine.

I feel the thread's been side tracked by bringing up "unregular" situations with older people and those with disabilities. I think the original post was intended to mean "in general" or "in my case".

I might be riding a trike at 99 too!!

Yeah, I didn't think you were offended. Stupid internet and its lack of tonal inflection . . . you can't tell what a person means when they type it because you can't hear the rise and fall of the person's voice as they type.

I didn't mean to come off as offended either, but I have to admit I was a little let down when I read that you think that I go out of my way to be non-PC.

As kay said, back on topic . . .

I don't feel that a trike is "really riding," because I find the lean/corner thing to be about as great as anything I've ever experienced (almost anything ), and without that, you may as well be in a car with a radio and a heater.

That said, I don't fault someone for riding what they want to ride. I'm sure cruiser people (butt pirates ) think us sportbikers (power rangers ) look pretty ridiculous for <seemingly> laying on our poor wrists for hours on end. Likewise, I never got all the leather vests and stuff . . . but if that's their thing, let 'em at it.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness but I did not ask for a pc lesson, nor do I want one. (notice no calm ease and lack of inflection) Acceptable pc terms will change along with the tides and I don't care to pay careful attention to them. I wish to be sensitive but it seems a waste of time to be worried about offensives. Why so many people want to be labled is beyond my comprehension and I believe that is exactly what they are doing in ignorance. I am this, she is that, he is such and such, he is this type of American today and tomorrow that will not be acceptable and he will be another type, etc, etc, etc, ... blah, blah, blah...

BTW sorry for the hypocrite lable Clint, I was out of line. Please accept my public apology.

I really wasn't going to post today (I put myself on 'restriction' sometimes when I feel that I'm not playing well with the other humans), but I feel compelled to respond to that statement.

FWIW (and I don't know everything), I have always gotten the impression that you are relatively quiet (conversationally) when compared to the rest of us. This impression (which may be in error) has led me to deduce that you probably post like you talk: after thinking . . . which is more than I can say for myself nine times out of ten (that goes for conversation and posting in my case).

Anyway, I just found it odd that you would ever talk too much.

That's not to say that I agree with anything you've ever said.
