I would agree with that. I know some that have gotten older and made that choice. My Dad is 64, and considering having his EG Ultra Classic made into a trike. If that keeps him riding, and his reflexes and judgement are still there, I'd love to keep him riding. As long as he is safe, and not a hazard on the road, I say go for it.

Now if you are young and capable, and riding just scares you that much that you need those things, I might feel diferent. But every trike I have seen in person has had an older or disable rider on it.

I think they deserve to ride as much as anyone, and i would never put them down for not wanting to give it up.

If you do not have a cage surrounding you, it is riding.

If common sense dictates you should wear a helmet while riding (not driving) it, you are riding.

If it has never came with seatbelts attached now or ever, you are riding...

It is the simple case of if it smells like a duck, looks like a duck, and sounds like a duck....It must be a duck.

Uuuhhhhh, then what do you say to the folks that post these? I was using "handicap" as a general description just as our PC govt' does. Can't be specific if ya don't know the specifics. I was not "defining" a person by a disibility. Just saying that maybe, just maybe the person with the fancy GW is not able to ride as we do. Maybe he, or she cannot flat foot or tippy toe at a stop, thus the extra wheels. I have seen quite a few folks on trikes that I am sure would have a difficult time on a two wheeler, thus the trike. I only recognize that they love to ride and be free, doesn't matter to me what or how they ride.

The reason my wife lets me have 2 bike is that I bought her a Miata so she is happy

But getting back to the gold wing this spring on a run with other people we stopped for coffe and in the parking lot there were 3 brand new Goldwing trikes with all the toys on them. After a while 6 older people walked out NO ONE under 70 walked up to them and took off. Listen they had a hard time walking. But rode away very happy. If it wasn't for those trikes they would not be out having fun.

You call them a handicapped or disabled person, not a handicap. Yes, it's politically correct, whether you appreciate that sort of thing or not.

Nitpicking. The way our society changes, "a handicapped or disabled person" will not be acceptable tomorrow. My point, and excuse my error, was that not all can ride as we do but find ways to enjoy it. Hopefully, I do not have to be pc with every post.

how about "If it has a cupholder, it's not motorcycling"

Same goes for a radio and air conditioning.

. . . on that note, I was talking to an American-born, Chinese-blooded chick I work with (and really, really like. she's a great person.) and I asked something about the culture of "oriental people." A guy walking by butted in and informed me that "oriental" was a slur. I was like, WTF?

Now, the girl (the Chinese chick) thinks it's offensive to say "oriental." See how this crap starts? What am I supposed to say . . . "your people?" "Chinese folks?" "Celestials?" "Y'all?" . . . nothing at all? I mean, c'mon . . . I don't get my butt torqued when someone calls me "white" (I'm 1/2 cajun).

This crap really gets under my skin at times. The last brush I want to be painted with is the "intolerant cajun racist" brush.

The acceptable term is 'Asian' though IMHO someone who is from the ex soviet union technicaly lives in Asia and is an Asian, though they would disagree with being called one!

Anyhow...

Yeah, I'm not down with how a lot people treat different ethnicities. For example at an old job in Memphis I remember seeing someone walking around with some Negro Club jacket ( literally said something like that on it ). I then started thinking to myself. If I walked around with a jacket that said "Whites Only" I think [ esp in Memphis ] I would get shot. Bigots.

Landry, the reason that's offensive is because The Orient is a specific region of Asia, and many Asians are not Oriental. It'd be like calling anyone from south of the US "Mexican".

You guys can make all the excuses you want for not being respectful to others, but that's what political correctness is about: respect. Most of the unspoken rules have a very rational reason for being. It says a lot about you if you choose to ignore them.

If it's not said disrespectiful, than it shouldn't be taken that way. Words are just that, words. If they are said in a way that is ment to hurt, than yes, by all means be offended, but if there not ment that way, than I think it's just silly to take them that way.

Actually, if you really want to be respectful, it is a "person with a handicap" or a "person with a disability".

But to get back to the original topic, I too have thought about what is "too much" and had my own preconcieved notions. I have changed my opinions based on some good arguments by everyone and have broadened my paradigm to include all riders. Just never really thought about it from that perspective.

That's what I said. The order of the words doesn't matter. It's grammatically identical.

I talked to a guy just today who told me he was considering a trike due to problems with equilibrium. He said the cost was probably prohibitive, though.

My origional post, IMO, was done with respect. The only reason this has gone on is that you have chosen to single me out. Recent posts have used the words, fag, dyke, midget, chick (in this post), etc... You even participated in some and made no PC correction. Why? Sounds hyprocritical to me. This has gotten really stupid!!

Man, please. It's not like I screamed it in her face, or followed it with an insult. PC people have no grasp of context. They see things in black and white. "Oh, no!! I've been offended!!" Boo-hoo. Welcome to the real world. From where I'm sitting, your Mexican reference is bunk. I didn't call her "Japanese," or "Russian."

FWIW, I call anyone from south of the US "foreigners," but I guess someone'll cry about that, too. "We're not 'foreign!' That's offensive. We're 'non-domestic'!"

I've got better things to do with my time than worry about what the latest "PC" term is for some group of people that like to be singled out . . . but on their own terms.
