Default 98 Vl1500 clutch fluid problem...

I have a 98 VL1500, 13,500 miles on it....just over a month ago I noticed that my clutch fluid resevoir was almost empty, refilled it.....thought it was fine, clutch felt good....kept an eye on it from time to time, just looked the other after riding back home from work and it was awefully low again...there are NO fluid drips in my storage building where I keep it stored overnight, there is no fluid on the bottom of the bike, have been told that it could be the clutch slave cylinder and that the clutch fluid is probably going to the engine oil....will it hurt it to ride it with the fluid in my oil like I have been?? How difficult is it to replace the 'cylinder'??? Any help and advise on this would be greatly appreciated as it's going to sit until I get it repaired... thanks...
