Default inattentional blindness

I've been shopping around for additional lights for my S50 (a single headlight bike) and I came across the site linked below concerning inattentional blindness. This site is a summary of psychological studies relating to a scientific view of visual perception and why some things are noticed and others are not. While this discussion is interesting we have known for some time that motorcycles are often not seen by the cagers.

What caught my eye however is the comment by Steven Most in the update section. "In one of his more interesting statements, he suggested that motorcyclists attempt to make their motorcycles resemble automobiles as much as possible. This is because car drivers look for other cars in traffic, and not for motorcycles". I assume (maybe incorrectly) that he is suggesting additional lights should be spread more on motorcycles.

Another theory about lighting arrangements came from the railroad industry that did a study many years ago to determine the most noticeable configuration of lights. According to James R. Davis "The result of that study was that a triangle, top light brighter and single with two smaller lights in a horizontal line below it, was BY FAR the most noticeable lighting configuration and all trains have since adopted such lighting".

I think it is an interesting topic. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, ideas, comments?
