Default Kevlar protection

I see a lot of guys perched on thier bikes wearing denim, as I do. However, just how many of you are wearing Kevlar. Referring to Dr Bob's latest very unfortunate event, these jeans won't stop you stoving your knee in, but they will prevent you sanding your precious layers of skin away on the tarmac.

Well worth while considering.

Soon as I lose a bit more weight, I'll be wearing these.

Thumbs up I don't wear kevlar

I do wear textile jackets and pants with CE pads though,Always. I also wear "body armour shorts" under the pants, along with what other layers I need to stay warm. I won't take the chance. I'll take what ever steps I need to to keep all of my skin and bady parts intact.

Bohn pants, etc. I always wear a pair of jeans with Kevlar. When not wearing my Bohn stuff, I throw on a pair of knee pads. I also have some knee pads I used for construction that I'll throw on now and then because they're light. Curiously, the "motorcycle type" knee and shin guards I have look suspiciously like the knee/shin guards I used to wear when I was a catcher-you can probably use catcher's stuff and be okay-or at least better than nothing!!!

I was looking to get the Joe Rocket jeans. Anyone here wear them and would like to tell me what you think of them?

I found a good review of the Rockets and Slider jeans. Joe Rocket Steel Jeans vs. Sliders Kevlar Jeans - webBikeWorld

Granted, the textiles are better than wearing jeans, or nothing at all, but leather with pads might still a better choice.

I have read some real horror stories about guys going down well wearing textiles, and even though there jacket/pants/gloves/whatever didn't wear through, they still had some real bad burns. The textiles got so hot in the slide, that in some cases it stuck to the skin, and had to be cut off. The results were as bad, or in some cases possibaly even worse than the road rash would have been.

All my info is second hand on this, but it's still worth thinking about, and looking into.

I wear leather pants every time I ride. In the sweltering heat I trade my leather jacket for a Joe Rocket Alter Ego, but that's my only concession to the temperature.

I once hit sand and fell. My left leg got caught between the bike and the road and got dragged with the bike until it stopped sliding, about 20 yards I think. But my leg came out with no scratches whatsoever wearing leather.

I'm sure if I had worn any textile pants, I would've been in a pretty pitiful state.

So for leather pants.

You could also have just been lucky. I've seen leather worn through as well.
My textile pants are overpants, with armored padding at key points.

I was lucky then!!
Well, when that happened, my foot was stuck between the bike and the asphalt road at a very odd angle and all my riding friends thought I broke my leg. But when they lifted the bike for me, I stood up, shook my leg and was ready to go.

They were all looking at me like LOL

Well, it saved me too that I have very flexible joints.

One thing I found interesting about my own recent wreck (whilst wearing blue jeans and no armored overpants): my knee was scraped pretty good (and banged all to @#*!)....yet my jeans didn't have a mark on them. LOL. It was more of a scraping from the jeans against the knee/leg...cause my leg didn't contact the pavement at all (or the jeans would have torn, right?)

You must had been lucky!! Although you were hurt, it could've been worse. I've seen a guy with his jeans utterly shattered to pieces and it sure wasn't pretty.

Jeans will burn itself into the skin, that's why it's better wearing shorts than jeans.

... but anywho... I'm wearing leathers and no one can stop me
