| You'll find a pile of Gixxer owners who don't know squat about maintenance, and don't care. These engines are tough as nails if cared for. Buyer beware.

| When I bought my bike (a Bandit 600), one of my friends (a Harley dude) said, "Man, those Jap bikes are throw-aways. They last about 10,000 miles and then one day, 'boom!,' they break down and require an overhaul." I have 16,000 trouble-free miles, and I make sure to toot my horn every time I pass his place. The bike still sounds/looks/feels/rides the same as the first day I bought it . . . and I've wrung the $hit out of it every chance I got. Buy what you want, do a little research and don't listen to dissenters, sometimes they have ulterior motives. If I may . . . have you considered a sport standard like the Bandit or the FZ? IMO they look cooler (you can see the engine 'cause there ain't a bunch of plastic), maintenance is easier (again . . . the plastic), you can ride one all day without getting "Gixxer pains" in your wrists and back, and the insurance is MUCH cheaper. Just a thought.

I believe Peter Egan recently did an article on the subject. Good stuff.

| Sprocket Pilot ![]() | I have just under 23k miles on my busa. Aside from mods for more hp and torque I have not had to take apart my engine yet. If you take care of ANY engine you can get good life out of it. If you don't know anything about engines or basic mechanics, start learning and save yourself a lot of headaches and money. All up to you how long you want your stuff to last.

| Newbie | thats good to know. Cuz i went to Barny's in Florida and at the one store he said the gsxr are the best bikes around. I went to their other location and the guy bashed them and said buy a CBR1000RR. But right now my bike purchased has been pushed back a few weeks cuz i slid on wet railroad tracks and messed my bike up bad on the left side. Also my brand new 621 buck Aria helmet that i only had on for not even 20 minutes |
