I heard that even a baby held in mom's hands who's sitting in the passenger seat can have so much impact in a case of a cager crash at pretty low speed that the baby can go right through the front glass. That mean's with a guy's weight, the impact must be huge.

I agee 100% that punishment for drinking and driving should be more severe because it's a conscious decision of the driver to drive even when he knows that he has alcohol in his blood.

It's so sad that lives are lost because of people who don't take drinking & driving seriously.....

The only place I open it up a bit is out in the country ( where you have 4+ miles between side roads ) or on the interstate ( and even then I go MAYBE 85-90 tops but that's in a 70 and usually only when I'm passing trucks that like to spit rocks at me ).
I have to agree with "jgreth"... If all of us here took the safety course, they did mention that we as motorcycle riders, must always... always ride defensively. Most motorcycle/automobile accidents happen because of a second of inattention.

And sadly, most times, the drunken driver may not receive a harsh sentence as we'd like to see. Seems the system doesn't come down hard in giving a proper sentence to drunk drivers who kill someone while driving. But still, I can't believe the driver of the car could not notice someone hanging out from his rear window or wonder why there was excessive wind coming from the back of his car...

What they should have done at the fire station is pulled the guy out of his car, listened to his story, determined her a a drunk driver (or not) and then put him out of our misery. BAM. 5 seconds later, clean it up, problem gone

I dont know al the details, and the story I linked to is kind of brief.
But I imagine he would have to have been going pretty fast to go trough the glass.
Unfortunatly this happens a bit too often. I recall hearing about a few ofthese stories with DUI's driving home with a body trough the windshield or some similar.

While I'd love to see sexy Anna Kournikova on a bike in a video.... I highly doubt this has any bearing on this conversation. ( obvious spam I know, just trying to add some humor )

And this just in from the Tucson area...Another type of deadly mope you don't want to run into - Stay safe!

Marana man gets 22 years in fatal road rage incident
A.J. FLICK
Tucson Citizen
A 43-year-old Marana man was sentenced to 22 years in prison, on top of three years imposed in two unrelated drunken-driving cases, for a fatal road rage incident.
"This is a travesty of justice," Edmond Gonzalez said Monday after he was sentenced to the maximum term for second-degree murder.
"The reality is you got what you deserved," Pima County Superior Court Judge Howard Hantman said.
On March 25, 2006, Gonzalez, who was on pretrial release in two aggravated DUI cases, went to a pawn store and became angered when he had to retrieve identification to pawn his tools.
Witnesses told police Gonzalez was driving a van erratically on Golf Links Road when he cut off a motorcyclist, Vince Mark Schoenherr, 45.
Schoenherr caught up with Gonzalez and the men shouted at each other and exchanged rude gestures, witnesses said.
Defense attorney Leo Masursky said Gonzalez was gesturing to imply that he was turning into Schoenherr's path when the van swerved into the Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Gonzalez saw the Harley wobbling and drove away, thinking that Schoenherr would maintain control, Masursky said.
However, the motorcycle collided with the median and Schoenherr, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown into the path of an oncoming car.
Schoenherr's mother, Carole Jay, who was driving past the accident scene, told Hantman that she saw her son's head jammed underneath the car.
Masursky asked for a presumptive term of 16 years in prison, saying Gonzalez had mental health disorders that led him into drug and alcohol abuse.
Deputy County Attorney Bill Dickinson asked for the maximum term, saying Gonzalez has defied plenty of chances to redeem himself.
Hantman told Gonzalez his extensive criminal history and that the fatal accident occurred while he was on pretrial release for two aggravated DUI charges was "incomprehensible."
"You are the causation of this, sir," Hantman said. "No one else."
Gonzalez was indicted on first-degree murder, leaving the scene of an accident and kidnapping charges. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, which carries a sentencing range of 10 to 22 years.

It is. It was apparently presumed by the Grand Jury that he gave warning of his intent when me made the motions to cut off the motorcyclist. Because of this, a case for first-degree murder could have been made.

I once slipped on the ice and fell through a tempered glass door. I was going (semi-jogging) about 5-10 mph. Right through the glass!

I try to avoid these types of posts, you know the hang em' high type responses are gonna be thick.

1) it does not take much force to go through auto glass
2) no one gets out of this world alive
3) drinking is blamed for alot of dumb stuff
4) the vast majority of people are marginally skilled drivers and/or riders (despite all the classes and certifications in the world)
5) making judgements based solely on news accounts isn't smart
just one guy with lots of experience on the road, track, and trails opinion.

Words of wisdom. Clear and concise. Gotta' be either ex-military or an engineer.

Be sure to use knee pads, TMML.

He's right though, I just get worked up when people kill others through absolutely retarded decisions like getting behind the wheel when drinking. I admit I did it twice ever. Both times I was 19 and I'll never do it again. One time I scratched all of the paint off from one side of my new car when pulling into the car port. I pulled in WAY too close to the pole.

I was once so drunk that I had to cover one eye to see. I turned around and went home.

Drunk driving is totally inexcusable.
