...went to go for ice cream the other evening and I sat on her bike and just sunk down. WHOA! Lo and behold a screw in the rear tire. She said something didn't feel right, but it seemed more like the rear brake to her, a little squeaking she said. We looked things over, but not close enough I guess. I was a sucker and paid for the tire warranty (rip-off!), the dealer puts tire on the rear (only 2700 miles), I ride it home and notice the rear brake is quite touchy, but I hadn't ridden her (Lola) in a while so chalked it up to just different. Next evening we ride across town to a local bike night, lots of HD's and your typical 50 something macho white males, in rolls my cutie, pink jacket, pearl white bike and flowers on her helmet and the bike just stops! (She has practiced her slow maneuvers and is really good! the timing was hard on her ego/image) Even in neutral it will not roll forwards or backwards. Finally get it parked and decide to let her cool down, the bike not the wife! A couple of hours later everything seems good. The mother-in-law lives down the block so I ride it over and park it there. Now, I am not a mechanical guy, but from the feel of things it seemed that the free play was missing and that the brakes were basically rubbing all the time and then expanded so much that they locked the rear. BINGO! Dealer picks it up adjusts the free play and we're back in business. Moral of the story is... ...trust your instincts! If it feels too different, something may be amiss. And of course the pre-ride check, don't discount the value of a few minutes spent making sure everything is in order! Peace out! |
