Today I was stopped at a red light making a left turn. So the light turns green and I start to go forward, then I hear a sound to my right and I look and it was an elderly lady who was standing on the corner of the sidewalk had fell. I was alone at the light so instead of turning left I turn right and pull into the McDonald's parking lot on that corner. I park the bike, pull off my helmet and rush over to the lady that was still on the ground. I asked her if she was o.k. and noticed she had scraped her knee and had a cut with some blood on the bridge of her nose that was probably caused from her glasses when she hit the ground. Although in pain tells me that she is all right and I notice that she has a cane to help her to walk and she was also carrying a bag with a couple of 2 liter pop bottles, which were kinda heavy and I thought to myself that maybe this might have caused her to fall when she lost her balance. So anyways after making sure she wasn't too badly hurt I help lift her off the ground and by this time a man at a nearby bus stop had come over to see if she was okay and also two girls who were crossing the street at the time also came to see if she was okay. So I suggest that we go to the McDonald's so she can use the washroom to cleanup and sit down for awhile until she feels a little better. I carry her bag for her and as we walk acroos the parking lot towards the restaurant she tells me that she had recent knee surgery and thanked me for helping. She then tells me that the reason why she fell was because she seen me on the bike and wasn't watching her step. She said she was afraid of motorcycles. I ask why and she replies because i had a friend that was killed on one...... I tell her I'm sorry to hear that. So I show her to the washroom and hand her her bag. One of the girls that had crossed the street earlier was also going in with her. So after all this I rode away thinking that I was glad that I was able be there when somone needed help, but I also in a way felt responsible for what happened. |
