Fed...

Thanks for the info. You are correct on the Ducati. It does have the ability to say, here I come and you are gonna look at me sound. Its great. I, however, wouldnt want to have one. Not into that style of sports bike and I dont want to pay thousands more just for the name, moreless. Im aware that the quality of the bike is fantastic, but I just cant see myself spending that much money for a bike when I can get something similair for thousands less and still turn heads!

good luck trying to argue logic with an italian, jonathan!!

actually i agree, to a point. but rememeber, if it wasn't for ducati, there would probably be no SV suzuki, VTR honda et al.

BTW, has anyone heard the sound of the new Benelli 900 Tre? It makes a ducati sound like a jack-hammer. nice jack-hammer though...

Hmm, dont think I would win with an Itailian, but hey, Im willing to try anything once, maybe twice, hell, even three times. LOL.

The Ducati did brings us things that we like to have. IMHO, the bike is talked up alot. The bike should be talked up alot because of the quality of the bike and the sound. But, like I said before, I can get something similiar and still be considered, the best, for thousands less.

I know that I basically repeated myself above, but let me ask you guys/gals a question:

Do you buy a bike because of the name, how many heads your going to turn or do you buy a bike based on reviews and safety?

Me, I bought the bike I ride based on it being a new type model, the price and the look and the way I felt on it.

I think it's pretty obvious that most riders buy a bike for showing off purposes, whether it's a chrome laden cruiser or a GSX-R for flash potential. Hell why would anybody need more than a GSX-R 600 for riding on the streets. It's not for safety or reliability issues, it's mostly for flash.

As for paying more to get a "Name" well I don't think it's really all that more expensive in the long run because the resale value will be way higher on a Ducati, BMW or Harley.

i don't think i could ever be a brand loyalist. and i can't remember the last time i read a review of a bike that said: this bike is a dud (Triumph TT600 got some bad press though). i think for most of us, there's always the bike(s) we'd love to own, and the ones we can afford to own, and my bike is the one i can afford to own.

BUT, as much as i would love a Ducati/Aprilia/Benelli/MV/Guzzi (i am from an italian background so it's more to do with uncles and 2nd cousins having these intoxicating bikes in their garages), when i'm midway through a corner cranked over, beginning to feed in some power...well...i'm a bit too preoccupied with having fun to think about other bikes

i also take peverted pleasure in showing other riders what a lil' ol' Bandit600 can do, if you take my drift

...Obviously it depends on what you want, what you like, what are you ready to loose to earn WHAT...... there are some friends of mine that would pay thousands of dollars to have a old Moto Guzzi (as the last bike bought from my friend Marcello: a Moto Guzzi V7 Special of 1967 , veeeery nice!) and somebody that looks for the low cost mainteinance and very good performance (japan bikes, wich are perfect, but YOU have to give them a personality....while other bikes have already their personality.......I LOVED my old CB 500 HONDA, for his low cost and NEVER-END reliability, for example, in spite of its "anonimous" shape adn ordinary perfomances....).

DUCATI is expensive(maybe outside Europe MORE expensive), yes, you're right. It has to be always a little dream that has not to become REALITY. Also because they say it needs a constant mainteinance(like all italian bikes, it seems... )
......I have to say I'm quite "sensitive" on the effect that a bike can have on the poople around.......somebody riding a low-frequency sound bike will be always a little bit attractive FOR ME... ...but everyone as his/her prefereces.
But at the moment I also chose low cost bike (my SV was ALREADY something expensive for my budget...anyway... ) but it seems to be the most performing bi-Cylinder in its category :
and it's too nice to let HER go!
bye

Let me toss something out for you all to think about:

Since you may not a bike based on name, why would you buy your shoes based on name, if you do that?

I don't, I buy my shoes for comfort primarily and for style. Don't care about the name.

Reminds me of when I was a volunteer fire fighter. We were dispatched to a car accident and I approached a man in a BMW that had the whole left side ripped off.

Driver was in bad shape, had his left arm torn off but all he was complaining about was the damage to his beemer, my BMW he kept repeating, my BMW.

I tried to calm him down and make him realize he had much bigger problems than his car. Well he finally realized his left arm was missing and started crying where's my Rolex, where's my Rolex..................

I do own a Toyota based on experience with them.

I was told never to buy any MC boots other than alpinestars (by many riders for many years).

But really, I'm only loyal to my spouse, my family, my football team and my barber.

Federica, I live near Udine but I was born and raised in America. Are you going to the Biker Fest in San Daniela this year?

Hiya Federica,

I always wanted a Suzuki GSX-R, but since the SV's line started producing I've been falling in love with them ever since and will shortly take the class w/my best friend. Thats wonderful to know that in Italy has alot of "SV's" bikers and you learn new things everyday.

Someday I would love to visit Italy and take a scenic tour of the country side especially on a "SV's" model if they rent it.

Merc...
