Wow. I'd be pretty damn upset about a ruined bike if I were you. Best of luck in overcoming your fear.

I did the same thing on my bike. Wrecked it on the way home from buying it. I hit a curb and flipped. A little hurt but the main injury was to my pride.

I took the course and was still scared to get back on the newly fixed bike. But I did and now I love it.

Glad you lived. Slap your father in the head for taking you out on the street for your first ride. Slap yourself in the head for letting him.

Take the course, practice by yourself, at your own speed, at your own pace, and soon you will be loving it.

Just keep riding. Eventually you will get it. But do take the class first if you haven't done so already.

wow this is a scary story... Sorry to hear your first adventure on a motorcycle resulted in an accident. Hopefully you can heal up your body and your pride... Take the MSF course very seriously and always focus when ridings! Hopefully you will enjoy it more after the correct training and practice!

I'll add that I agree with the others read "Proficient Motorcycling!"

Harsh, yes. True, also yes. Not as "harsh" as ending up in the morgue.

Let's consider this a little closer. The first time you got behind the wheel of a CAR, was it on a public street, basically unsupervised and without a license?
Probably not, at least I hope not. Why do you think your first time on a street bike should be any different?

OK, enough beating of the injured "horse".

Glad you're OK. Here's hoping that the rest of your riding days are without major incident.
Live to ride. Ride to live.

The bike is ok, needs a new front fender, headlight, and windsheild. Also need to replace my riding jacket (was cut off me) and of course I will replace the helmet. Thanks for all the comments I will buy the book and read it on my up coming vacation, and no more riding tell my MSF on the 21,22,23 of next month. Could someone sticky this post so for others to learn from

Speak the truth brotha! Suggestions and advice...sesh! Umm. Start slow next time. After and only after you take the course. Even take the advanced version, seeing that you have already wasted at least 5 lives.

I'd have thought so, too. I never understand the "I tried to steer the bike" thing. Have you never ridden a bicycle?

Kudos for taking our jabs so well. We're really just trying to say that we'd have really been bummed had you ended up as fender paste. Happens all the time.

We used to have an accumulation of "My stupid mistake" threads, but I don't know where it went. I'll look into that.

Do yourself a favor.....Keep this little incident between you and all of us here at M-J dot com. I wouldn't bring it up in your MSF course.
