I'd make a lowball offer. It's 12 years old, probably needs new tires and a carb cleaning. Have you checked book value?

Sounds a tad high- knock off about $400-500 to cover the new tires (dryrot), carb cleaning (bike has been sitting), oil/ filter/ drive shaft fluid/ coolant change, new front brake line (if bike has been sitting more than 2 years), and battery it will need. The average trade in value is about $1800 (what the dealer would give you for it) and the average retail is $2650 (what you would pay for it from the dealer in good running condition), so $2050-2150 would be a good price.
Intruder 800s are great bikes, basically bulletproof and will run forever, so grab it if you can talk the woner down a bit.
