Default PGR & Four Corners Tour

I had the privilege of joining in on a pretty cool ride today. A Patriot Guards Rider member from Indiana got the idea to do the Four Corners Tour on his Electra Glide with a 3" x 5" American flag flying the entire trip.

The Four Corners Tour is put on by the Southern California Motorcycling Association, and is riding to the four corners of the continental USA in 21 days. I think most everyone knows what the PGR is, and what its mission is. Hugo is doing this as a way to promote the PGR and more importantly, honor our service members.

Hugo has Terry with him driving a full sized van, pulling a trailer, both of them with PGR information on them. By the time they left Indiana last week, they had about 4 others join them for the entire ride, and have had "escorts" along the way. I've been trying to track their progress so I could join them here in SoCal.

I received an email today when I got to work with a phone contact, and realized they were going thru today. I managed to call at just the right time so I could meet them in El Toro, CA. So I left work due to "a little emergency I needed to deal with", and met the guys about a half hour later.

What a great group a guys they are! Behind Hugo is Bob on a Star Roadstar with a 3" x 5" yellow PGR flag mounted on the back. The others are all on Harleys. The plan for me was to only go as far as Oceanside, about 50 miles south.

Even tho it's a Saturday, they had already experienced traffic going thru LA before I met them in Orange County. So here we are, on the I5 South towards San Diego. We get out of the built up areas, and we're on open freeway. Not! About 10 miles from Oceanside the freeway becomes a parking lot. Word has it there's a car on fire about 5 miles ahead. It was stop and go, and the go was inches at a time. The guys got a lot of attention tho as we sat there. They promoted their ride, and made a few new friends. (I think they were all lady friends.)

I had signed their trailer and the PGR flag when I met them. Now they had people getting out of their cars to sign also. For being stuck in traffic, it was kind of fun. But I did need to get back to work too. I said my farewells, and took off between the lanes to the next exit so I could turn around and head back. About a mile from where I left them I passed the vehicle fire. It was on the north bound side of the freeway! That's California for you. After I was back northbound myself, I saw them going the other way, and I must say it was quite a site.

They're reaching their second corner tonight, San Ysidro, and then across the nation to Key West, FL. If anyone is interested, they have their own forum linked on the main page of the PGR website. There's information on the Four Corners Tour at Southern California Motorcycle Association - Home on the Web!. That's something I'm planning on doing in a couple years.

Anyhow, just wanted to share what I thought was a cool thing I was able to participate in.
