As long as you live under their roof, you live by their rules.

When you are old enough to earn your own money and pay your own way, then you can decide how and what to spend your money on.

Sorry, but that's the only advice I can offer.

My advice would be to see if you could get one of them to take the MSF class with you. If you can get them as excited about bike as you are they may lift the ban.
Keep trying to inform them about all the great reasons to buy and be willing to have many open discussions about why they are against it.

a few things you can do in your spare time:

* find out why they oppose so firmly
* figure out why you didn't ask them about it before you went through all the trouble of studying
* get a license but don't buy a bike yet
* move out and do whatever you want
* buy a bike, store it at a friend's place, and lie to them
* buy one anyways and see what they do
* take up marksmanship

the list is endless!

When I was 18 living at home my parents told me the same thing. They also said no tattoos, but I did that one anyway. they got over it. Why do they say no bikes? Safety or money reasons. Mine always said that if you have money to spend on toys you have money to live on your own. One thing lead to another and I didn't get my first road bike until I was 37. Now I'm pushing 39 and I'll tell you I wish I didn't wait so long. I'm not saying to get it anyway because being a parent myself you do not want your kids deliberately doing something you told them not to. Maybe if you talk to them and discuss this you may be able to talk them into it. but if you do you better not screw it up. Maybe they don't want you getting killed. I will tell you this, riding a motorcycle has made me a better cage driver, no doubt about that.

Keep the bike in the garage. That way it won't be in the house

Serously though. Don't do it unless they give their blessing. The pain isnt worth it.

tell them about how insanely inexpencive it is. and the suggestion to have one of them go through MSF with you is a good one.

That's a good idea, though I would suggest having BOTH parents at the MSF if possible. Both parents need to be involved in the decision process and both parents need to know that you take your safety seriously. If all else fails:

1. Refer to post #2
2. Get a part-time job
3. Save your cash
4. Buy the bike once you leave the house

It's easier to beg forgiveness than to get permission.

i'm gonna jump to conclusions here and say that you're asian (possibly vietnamese?), and your parents are expecting you to focus 100% of your time on your school and not bother with 'western time-wasting affairs' like motorbikes. they also expect you to take full care of them, something you can't do if you get into a motorbike accident. notice that your mom already stopped driving ever since you got your license - she expects YOU to drive her around whenever she might need it.

rule #1 of all parents - they are hypocrites! yes, it's sadly true - just because they did something when they were young doesn't mean that they'll let you do it too.

you might just have to put off the whole idea of a motorcycle for a while - at least until you are living on your own or you are more equal to your parents.

Conclusion!? More like stereotyping.

You're either one one heck of a Profiler or you are Asian too.

I'm Chinese and my guess would have been Indian or Pakistani.

I was in a similar situation growing up - top of my class, model student, Senior NCO in the school Cadet Force, captain of the Rugby team - but I knew motorcycles were out of bounds. I just got my first one less than a year ago, when I was 31 - and my second one on my 32nd birthday My parents wanted me to become a doctor, or lawyer or something prestigious like that. I wanted to be a soldier so I became an infantry platoon commander.
Oh and my parents don't know I ride - it's one of those what they don't know won't hurt them things - they live 6000 miles away so they'll find out when they come visit. I told them nothing of what I did in the service - they just wouldn't understand!

Some times sitting down and talking with your parents openly helps.

I ride because I had a 17 year old son who wanted to ride and a wife who thought it was too dangerous. My son already had his wings through his Cadet Squad.
So I got a bike for me, my son got his class 6 endorsement and my 15 year old got a dirt bike.

So talk to your parents, I think you will find it is more concern for you than anything else.

I have already been looking at a small ridem motorcycle for my grandson.

So now you know why I started to ride at the age of 50.

My parents still don't like bikes and they still don't know about the sports bikes I have. They've only seen my naked Kawasaki and my little scooter.

I started living on my own at the age of 18 simply because my parents were still in London and I returned to Japan to attend University.
That was when (secretly), I started racing cars.
They still hate that too, but told me that they would not disagree with the car racing if I would stay away from bikes (they somehow knew I was interested).

I kept my promise........at least for a good number of years, but I thought heck, if I can finance it myself, I better start riding before I turn 90 and regret that I should had started earlier.

But as a lot of the others have already said, it's not going to be easy if you live under the same roof, because even if you got a license and bought the bike, you're going to have to go through the discomfort of fighting them everytime you want to ride out.

If they are financing your education, that's not going to make things easier for you.

Can't you just wait till your independant? Then even if they may not like it, they won't be able to complain.

You are legally an adult. Do what you want. But of course, be prepared for the consequences.
