Default Am I Getting Ripped Off?

I have a 1986 bmw k75, and I decided to sell it. I hadn’t ridden it in a year or so, so I figured id have to get the bad gas cleaned out, get new battery, and some other basic maintenance in order to have a good sale. I purchased the battery and some other minor parts, and after I installed the battery I went to crank it over, and like before with the old battery, it didn’t seem to be giving any juice to the electrical components. After further inquiry, I discovered a few wires that needed replacing, and also found some wires that were disconnected/worn through. I took it into this shop that my dad had taken me to when I was a young boy. I tell the guy about the wires, he says he will look into it and get back to me. So I leave the bike there, and wait. I dropped the bike off on feb 7th of this year. A week go’s by, and since I haven’t heard from him I call him up and ask him what its going to cost me. He then informs me that the battery was installed backwards. Neg cable to pos terminal etc. and that because of this, it probably fried the computer, and did some major damage to the electrical components. I know that I installed the battery correctly, before taking the bike in, I mean I work for National Tire and Battery. But I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt, and asked him how much it was going to cost if by some chance this damaged the computer or other components. He said he wasn’t sure, and needed a deposit, in order to start looking at the electrical components. Since I am trying to sell this bike, I wrote him a check for $300. But I would like some feedback from anyone who can offer me info on this. How much could this end up costing me? Shouldn’t it blow a fuse, before damaging any serious electrical parts? And what about all the disconnected wiring I discovered? I am human, and make mistakes but I know I put that battery in correctly. I kind of feel like I am getting ripped off. I mean its march 9 now, he has had the bike for over a month. Well enough of my %%%%%in. I am just looking fwd to see what others have to say
