My wife and I were capitalizing on a great, sunny, 75 degrees, and a beautiful weekend for a ride. I road my bike Saturday and it ran top notch, no issues at all by myself and with my friends. Sunday I got up and my bike would hardly start, after it was started seemed to run a little sluggish. Not quite right for some reason, we road for a while without an issue then stopped to get some ice cream. When we went to leave the bike started to act funny again. So I said to my wife, “We need to get home the bike is not acting right”. As I pulled out of the parking lot, I began at an incline and leaned the bike into a slight turn. Then all of a sudden the bike shut down, in the middle of accelerating. I lost momentum and the bike fell to the right, my wife rolled off on to the pavement and I took a bit of a fall. She landed on her wrist. I got up and check if she was ok, and then looked at my bike. I picked it up and got over to the shoulder of the road, and we inspected each other for damage. We both wore our full ridding gear and the injuries sustained were minor, she had a bruise on her wrist, but it’s a good thing she had the gloves on. She probably would have scathed up her whole hand. I came off with a ruined pair of jeans; the gear took all the punishment. Did not hit the helmet and the armored jackets had no signs of being touched. I’m fine; the bike only took minor damage. The brake lever broke and I had a couple of scratches on the exhaust pipe. I was able to get the bike started and get it home. I plan on fixing the lever and taking the bike in the shop and have it looked over. All in all, we were lucky and goes to show how important gear is to even the most minor of incidents. |
