Default A Great Motorcycle Adventure

Forgive me for promoting another MC forum, but I can't resist. Here is a guy from Texas who quit his job, loaded his bike, and hit the road. His posts and pictures are great. I wish I were in a position to do something like this.

Quit my job to go on a "little" ride....US Tour '07 - ADVrider

The only thing keeping me from doing something like that is the fact that I still have payments to make on my bike!!!

Man, the mods on that site need to compress dude's posts into something readable. It's barely worth the pain to scroll through 4 pages without him saying anything.

Sounds like a nice trip, but I gotta' say . . . no responsible person lives like that. You can tell he doesn't have kids or worry about his future.

I'd spend the whole trip wondering how I'm going to eat when I run out of money.

[EDIT]
He has a son.

I almost did something similiar to this after my GF and I broke up last year... Of course I didn't own a motorcycle then but I did have a truck/backpack and a set of snow skis and I wanted to travel the mountains and ski! Only thing keeping me from doing it was a sense of responsibility towards my great job and my parents for sending me to college to have a good job! I guess logical thinking won out in the end but this would still be a great journey!

Yeah, all the other posts are cumbersome to scroll through, but you can filter the thread for only posts from the guy.

I noticed that he set up a Paypal account and people have been donating to his trip. Many are living vicariously through him. I am one of them. My wife would kill me if I tried this, fun though it may be.

Man I just wasted like 2 hrs reading through all 65 pages and finally got up to speed and to today... Apparently he's in Tennessee! What a cool deal! He should have ventured up North a bit further into the Ozarks!

I spent quite some time catching up myself. I think that's a pretty amazing journey, I would love to do something like that in Europe when I graduate...

In fact, I'm going to open a new account right now and start saving for it. Go Kaneman!

Sounds like a dream adventure to me too, but there's that thing called responsiblility. And that other thing; money. I only scrolled down a little bit, but I noticed the "Ghost Rider", by Neil Peart, book in his top case. If you haven't read this book, I highly recommend it. It makes you want to do at least something similar. But not everybody has the kind of money a world class drummer has at his disposal.

Anyhow, my main point was to recommend the book.

Just got this book today from Amazon.com. Looking forward to reading it.

Default I spent two days

Reading trying to catch up to where he was.
I only wish I had thought of it first and it was me all those people were funding a trip throughout the United States, I am extremely jealous. The way he's going he could be out there for year or more, who knows
I did find his writing to be somewhat amusing. I think he should think about writing a book about his adventure when he finally ends it.

Yeah, he did a good job at writing about the whole thing.

I'd love to do this, I'd have to get a different bike than a Gixxer though, its a nice bike but the seat is to hard and I sit to far forward. Besides, what would my fellow sportbike riders think if they saw me with saddlebags? Haha.

I've been wondering how my M50 would do on something like this...

I can't understand how people were saying where was his "responsibility" when seeing as he is single the only thing he needs to responsible to is that he has good medical coverage in case of accident. He is only resposible to HIMSELF. Not work, not you, not me, not anyone except himself. There are countries out there in the rest of the world where it is very common for people to work like crazy for a few years and then go to Europe for as long as possible. Run out of money, come back home, work some more and then back to Europe. People need to realize that there is more to life than climbing the corporate ladder, owning two or three homes, having the RV, SeeDoo, and being in debt for the rest of your life. I commend this guy for getting away from the rat race for a while and doing something that he enjoys. Yes, he will eventually have to go back to work and start being more responsible, making sure that he is looking after his later years. Travelling around like that is a lot of fun but I'm sure he knows that eventually he will have to settle down and get back to the real world. But let him enjoy himself. As I said I commend this guy. I myself worked in Europe for six years driving buses for a hotel and camping tour company. Was a blast but I knew that eventually I had to get back to real work.

I'm quite jealous. After ten days on the road last year, I found myself thinking I could handle doing that for a few months. Years? No.

I especially like post #4, and I found it quite readable. MML, have they cleaned it up since your comment, or did you just find it boring?

If he has a son then I hope that he is being responsible as far as paying any support (if divorced) and being a good father while on the road. I'm sure there is lot about this guy that we don't know about. but overall I think that a lot of us are jealous that he is taking this trip.

Can't speak for the others, but I AM jealous. The only issue I have with responsibility is that I have too many that currently prevent me from such an endeavor.
