Definately need to get the word out to people you guys and girls, who know people who don't suit up. Cuz their invincible right? They don't crash. They can't get hurt. Their too experienced. Their too good. Their too fast. Gear is too expensive. It doesn't matter. HMM.... Any other excuses you guys have heard??

Gear is too expensive.
That is the most common one I've heard. But, riders will spend $600 on a Hindle pipe, $300 on a Power Commander and $500 on a "custom" paint job. That is a set of custom full-out racing leathers right there. Sad part is, they will still be riding SLOW anyway. So, I would suggest buying the gear, learn how to ride, then mod the bike.

Of course, what do I know?

I always wore gear BEFORE my crash. After crashing June 12, I have this to say:

1. The helmet saved my life.
2. The boots kept my feet and ankles from injury.
3. The gloves, jacket, and pants minimized cuts and bruises (I still had a few).

I broke some bones which are painful, but I will recover completely in time without lasting effects.

Always wear it and I am positive it has saved me on the two occasions when I have parted company with the bike....
First time the leather wore right through to the armour, that could of been my skin wearing down to the bone!

Alright ALRIGHT I can take a hint. Where do I shop for gear? And a helmet for that matter. It's be a week before I can take delivery of my bike.

For leather and textile gear, try www.newenough.com For the helmet, I bought it locally to make sure it fit well. one of the most imortant thing with a helmet is its fit. You could buy a $1000 helmet, but if it's too loose, it won't protect you properly.

Thats a good website pitbull. BE WARNED - When buying gear from a website (especially helmets) make sure you know what size in a particular brand your wear. Such as a Large Arai might be a medium Shoei. (not really but you know what I mean).

So should I be looking at leather or textile. I need guidance. I don't want to look like a power ranger, but I do want to be protected. The leather I've worn in the past was VERY heavy. Which will provide better protection in a slide?

Leather is definitely the better protector, based on skid tests. I forget the exact stats but its something like jeans wear through in 4-5 feet, textile in 30 feet and heavy leather in 80 feet. If anyone has the actual numbers, please chime in. You can get leather with vents to help you stay cool. I have both a textile jacket and a leather one. When it is simply too hot for the leather I wear the textile...

I wear a jacket, full-face helmet, motorcycle boots that go over my ankles, gloves and jeans. I will be getting some real riding pants over the winter...

I think it was 60 feet for textile and I know it's only a couple inches for flesh and bone! Got the pics to remember that day!

A minimum of jeans, boots, jacket, gloves, and helmet. If I'm riding hard I have textile sport pants, some teknic boots, leather jacket, and some gauntlet gloves.
