There have been several questions lately about abbreviations and terms used here, so I thought I would put together a short glossary for our new members. Feel free to add or comment! Commonly Used Terms NEWBIE – A new rider. NEWBIE is not necessarily a negative title. Everyone was a NEWBIE at one time. Sometimes also spelled NOOBIE or NOOB. PLONK - The sound a TROLL makes as (s)he falls to the bottom of an ignore list. This term (usually written *plonk*) is often used as a form of public ridicule. SQUID – "Squirrelly Kid" or "Stupid, Quick and Inevitably Dead" or " Stupid, Quick, Underdressed, Ignorant and Dangerous" A SQUID is an inexperienced young rider on a race replica bike. The name SQUID can also refer to their style of movement – a quick movement in a straight line, but unable to turn without stopping first. TROLL – A troll is a person who makes provocative statements with the intention of starting an argument or a “flame war”. Around here, most TROLLs begin by asking which racing bike they should buy as their first bike, then proceed to ignore or refute any kind of good advice that they should start with a more NEWBIE-friendly bike.
