Default Last ride of the season?

On the weekend, two of my friends and I went for a little ride. The thermometer showed about 5 degrees Celsius and there was a little bit of sun. We headed towards Wakefield but with hindsight, it wasn't such a great idea. This was a little higher up in the hills so it was colder and there was frost on the road sides and we even hit a fairly big patch of ice and slush which scared me a little. I was riding in 2nd place and when the 1st person saw the slush he braked, when I noticed, I was on the ice but since he slowed I had to brake as well in order to not slam into him. The 3rd passed us on the left side avoiding all this. I didn't like it too much when I felt my rear tire give and move sideways.

No harm done and besides that, it was a nice ride.

Yikes.
I put an end to my season yesterday. Weather has been great during the day all weekend but the mornings are heavy frost that hasn't been going away until 0930 or 1000. And it is getting colder faster in the evenings now.
So, we are going away for 10 days starting Thursday, so I took one last jaunt over the weekend and put the bike on the stand and got it ready for the dreaded winter on Sunday.

Good night to the ride for a while.

Yeah, I haven't gone out much lately. The mornings are way too foggy & the evenings after work are way too cold. On the other hand...it's not too bad getting to listen to the radio again.

Well I get to park "M" for a while. On Monday I have to have Hernia Surgery (again) and so I'll need to park her for about a month.

She is cleaned up, gas stabilized, parked on wood, and tucked in until the salt is washed off the roads next Spring.

I've been pretty stressed lately and itching to go out for a scream. We'll see.

Well I think it's the last day for me. Took the bike to work this morning. Just in the last hundreds feets of the parking lot, some loser coming from a perpendicular street didn't do his stop. I had spotted him so nothing bad happened but still had to honk and brake slightly hard. Now being close to zero and the street was damp with humidity, my front wheel locked. I promptly released the front brake. Good thing this cagers didn't enter my parking lot, he would have gotten a pretty verbose rendition of my interpretation of his driving skills.

2 "incidents" in 2 consecutive rides. Enough for me. People aren't expecting bikers too much either at this time.

It hurts. The weather has been really nice the last two or three days with temps in the upper 40's in the morning. Definitely rideable weather. Too bad I already put the bike away. Well, I'll be leaving for Florida tomorrow and we are supposed to get colder with snow flurries on Sunday.
I will just have to wait until next year.

Zoe, I have a great aunt that lives in Rome. Small world. Since we only see her and her family at funerals, we took my G-father up to visit here last year. Nice area. How's the riding?

Are you on a water meter? If not, just leave the faucets on a slight trickle as long as it is that cold.

my parents did that.......let the water trickle when the outside dropped down to a certain temp, it does work.

Maybe wrap them in "heat tape". That may cure your problem all together.

the only way to get to the pipes to the back bathroom is to crawl under the house.

no can do.

i'll use the drip method and leave an electric heater on in there all night.

after school today the boy and the two little girls are stapling the plastic over the drafty windows. and because the bike is on the front porch, they'll cover the porch too.

When I was a kid, we knew when it was really cold. The curtains would be moving from the wind & there would be so much ice on the glass you couldn't see out.

Would I refer to these times as the good old days? Yeah, oddly enough I would.

Chicster,

The riding is great up here. Just sorry that it has to end for the season. Thinking of a winter bike or a long trip down South.

Tough to have such an addiction!
