Default Street Bike Help?

Ok so I havent rode for almost 2 year's when I 1st got my dirtbike Yz125, sold it recently and now Im thinking of getting a streetbike.

Problem is I dont know anything about streetbikes? Are they cost effecient on gas and maintnence. My car is having problems every 2 month's after running for years and years without any trouble.

My Price range is from 6k to 14k and Just want a bike that can travel 50miles on a weekly basis. I dont plan on racing or even doing stunt's I just wanna coast down the highways and ride but be fast if some car or bike want's to get crazy with me. What would the insureance be around on the bike for a 20 year old rider?

So can you guys give me suggestion's on some brand new bikes and my last question is, is it hard to pass the driving test for a streetbike if you have 0 experience besides driving a car?

Sorry about all the question's just wanna know what Im getting into before I do, impatiently waiting to ride ^^.

Welcome to the forum.

1) Before you look at buying a bike, take a MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) or equivalent course. This will introduce you to the basics of street riding, and teach you what you need to know to pass the driver's license test. In some states, an MSF certificate will replace the driver's test altogether.

2) Price is not an issue. You should be able to find a good used street bike for much less than $6k. Fifty miles per week is nothing. During the summer riding season, I average 1000 km (620 miles) per month, and I can't ride every day. There are people here who put more miles on their bikes than on their cars (or don't even own cars).

3) Speed is not an issue. Once you've ridden for a while, you will learn that speed is unimportant. The joy of riding has little to do with speed, and little to do with other traffic. You will start to look for "the road less traveled", and enjoy the relationship between you, your bike, and the world around you. You'll take the long way around - because riding is Zen - the journey is the destination.

3) Insurance costs depend upon many factors - how much coverage you want, where you live, your driving record, and so on. You should be able to find basic insurance coverage for a couple hundred per year - full comprehensive coverage can be much more expensive.

Depends on the bike. Honda Rebel will beat a car hands down for cost effectiveness. May want to consider 4 foot of snow on the ground in the winter however. Even my Rebel has to be parked sometimes.

Any of the sport bikes are going to cost more to insure, especially the "R" bikes. They get crashed, and stolen more often, so insurance companies charge more to insure them. I have heard of some guys paying more for a years insurance, than they paid for the bike.

Check out the search button above, lots of good info for new riders.

Im pretty dead set on a brand new bike, I cant afford to get a bike and put money into beside's regular maintenece. As for the Pm someone sent me thank you for the great detail. Although in the pm, you said Im gonna hit pavment did you mean while moving or at a standstill where Im holding bike?

So try to gimme a bike name Ill do some research, More In I live in Bullhead City Arizona, so rain/snow dont matter since we rarley get rain and it never will snow. I weigh 200 pounds, and I wanna be fast enough to smoke these kid's with their freaking honda civic's.
I plan on driving 50 miles roundtrip 5 day's a week and prolly 100miles on 1 my days offcruising. So if these bikes cant do the miles a car can please lemme know.

You have as much as $14,000 and can't afford a used bike? You need some lessons in economics, friend. I suggest you put off buying anything until you learn a bit more, such as that any motorcycle made will smoke a Civic, and that mileage isn't an issue for a motorcycle. They'll run longer than you will. Obviously you're a bit misinformed in the matter.

Stick around and read, bud.

This is why I have question's, as for not wanting a used bike I cant afford to get a junker and be screwed. 6k-14k is a range and to be honest Id prefer spending no more then 9k but I do want a bike Ill be riding for years and feel a rush everyday. I know Im not famailr with the bike'sx but Im a quick learner and em looking for something that will take money years to master.

Project, they're pushing you towards a used bike.. because.. well.. You're going to drop it, or you could crash it.

You can afford to drop a 14 thousand dollar bike..or possibly total it...Yet you can't afford to drop, or total a used bike that you paid only 2-4k for?

I don't know about you, but i'd feel much more comfortable on a used bike.. I don't think i'd like to drop a 14 thousand dollar bike on the street going 60.. or even at a stoplight, for that matter.. repairs on a bike like that, could cost more than you'd pay for a used bike.

Check Buy Sell New and Used Motorcycles for Sale at CycleTrader.com

Lots of good bikes listed here. Gives you an idea of prices.
Dirt bikes give you exp. on bike handling. Riding the streets is a lot diff. than driving a car.
MSF, an open mind and the willingness to learn, are required if you wish to
survive.

A car is forgiving and provides a measure of protection, a bike does not.

Take a look at a C50T, good bike, 805 cc's, 2up riding. Best bang for the buck.

Dropping a used bike is cheaper than dropping a new bike.

First off.. it's dirt... Second off.. a dirtbike doesn't weigh 350-700lbs.

There are many ways to drop a bike.. for example.. a couple months ago.. i saw a guy drop a BRAND new red hayabusa....... at a stop light. I know it was new, because I left the shop at the same time as the guy.

Ok so Ill have to find a lighter bike, this is good were getting somewhere, as for falling off at 60mph, woudnt I be dead if it happened and #2 how can I fall if im just driving not doing any stunt's it would be like riding a bicycle.

Ok so he fell because he didnt have the leg strength to hold the bike up while leaning on a ciertain side, I have played soccer 4 years and should be fine.

That's a crummy way of looking at things... Going down at 60 doesn't mean you're going to die.. that's so far from the truth. I know people who have gone down at faster speeds than that... That's why you wear gear.

Also... weight on almost all sport bikes is 400lbs, give or take.... Good luck finding lighter.

As for how can you fall if you're not stunting...? You can't see gravel, dirt, or hell, even pineneedles going at those speeds, especially not 100 feet away. Also take into account that there are millions of other people on the roads.

Not every accident takes place because someone was doing stunts.

I don't have a lot of experience myself, so vets, feel free to chime in if i'm steering him in the wrong direction, haha.

No, you're right. I don't think he's listening, though.

No to the first one - it's a race bike.
No to the second one, it's a high-performance bike not for a new rider
No to the third one - see number one
No to the fourth one - see number one

My point is not that you need to buy a used bike, but that you need to do some learning about general motorcycling information before you decide what to buy. It's not something you should blindly jump into.

A little patience, bud.

I have like until Decemeber 1st until Im full blown out their buying a bike within that week, so if you guys can teach me or link me to what I need to learn I will be forever in your debt.

As for now im leaving to work to daydream about riding a sportbike all day. Whats wrong with riding a racebike on a daily basis? As for the to much powerbike if I dont use the power why coudnt I ride it? I know it seems like Im not listening but im only asking "why" so I can learn.

I went down at 55 in 1970. Yes I was playing around on my bike. Did I learn anything? YES!! It does not pay to see if you can weave in and out of the stripes on the highway as you are accelerating.

Rear end sled out from under me in a hard left lean and down the center stripe me and the bike went, me on my back [heels of boots, billfold and back of helmet].

So going down at 55-60 doesn't mean you will die.
