Default Two weeks

When I was 16 riding my brother's Honda 160. Took it into a field(on purpose) with a passenger, both of us went over the handle bars. Stupid kids....neither of us got hurt. Hahahaha. Next time was in 1978 on my brand new Honda 400 Hawk twin...after about two weeks. Had a little more experience and a little more caution.

Roller: After about 5 minutes.

Motorcycle: 2 years.

I prefer to ride alone. I will carry a passenger only when there is no other alternative.

I completed the MSF basic course and added approximately 1000 miles before I took on a passenger.

how different is it? or is it just one of things that you'll never know until you experience it?

Each different passenger will give you a different ride.Their size and how they wide with you, or against [lean out when you need them to lean in] you.

This is very very true. I have probably given 6 girls rides on my bike, and they all rode differently. most of the first timers would generally grab onto the sides of my jacket and lean on me. This sucks after time because your wrists take most, if not all of both your guys' weight. The more experienced ones will put their hands around you and support themselves on the gas tank. This is soo much better.

Just remember if it is a first time rider to tell them to not fight against you when you lean. Don't touch the exhaust with the bottom of their shoe. And the make the rear grab bar for a reason, so at stops they can support their own weight. and God forbid you two were forced to bail off the bike, show her how to fall. It may scare her, but that is good.

Noone can say how long you should weight before having a passenger, but when you have enough miles under your belt and you feel comfortable that you can handle the bike well enough, then try. But be careful becuase it isn't just your life anymore, its someone else's that you are in care of.

With all the parental like guidance coming from me ya think I wasn't 22 or something, But I have probably ridden about 5,000 miles with a passenger and While it is fun, you must be careful.

Being young and squidly it was probably weeks or hundres of miles. Don't recall. I did follow proper licensing requirements, though.

I dropped by to look at getting my first bike (Kawasaki 500 triple) when I was 16. I closed the deal though I didn't ride it because the owner wasn't there and I promised to bring cash the next day.

Skipped school with a buddy and hitchhiked out to pay the money and rode the bike around all that day without helmets or a plate on the bike or a license in my wallet! With my buddy on behind me!

It was the first time my buddy or I had ever ridden a motorcycle! I had forgotten all about that until I saw this thread!

So I guess when my teenagers back the car into trees, I can't get TOO upset.

I still can't believe we survived that day....

I don't give people rides...but only because I have no friends...and I like it this way.

Actually I've given both my daughters a quick ride up and down our Cul De Sac...but that's it.
