Default How to pack for a motorcycle trip at Dr Bob's house

1) Get empty luggage from closet.

2) Chase cat out of closet.

3) Chase kitten out of closet.

4) Put bag on bed, turn around to get first item of clothing out of dresser.

5) Remove cat from bag.

6) Place item in bag, turn around to get another item.

7) Remove kitten from bag

8 ) Place item in bag, turn around to get another item.

9) Remove cat AND kitten from bag

10) Repeat steps 5-9 several times, regretting that you ever chased the little monsters out of the closet

10) Return to closet to get something, which you don't intend to pack but you figure the cat and kitten will stay in the closet

11) Leave cat and kitten in closet while and go to get another item from dresser

12) Turn to put item in bag, only to find that cat has no further interest in closet now that you are not trying to chase it out of there

13) Remove cat from bag.

14) Place item in bag, turn around to get another item.

15) Remove kitten from bag. Kitten also has not further interest in closet

16) Place item in bag, turn around to get another item.

17) Remove cat AND kitten from bag

18 ) Repeat steps 13-17 until bag is full

19) Complete packing, place bag on living room floor with bungee cords to attach it to bike

20) Get helmet from closet.

21) Chase cat from closet, which no longer has any interest in bag now that you want it out of the closet.

22) Put helmet on bar. Search house for bungee cords, which the kitten ran off with while you were chasing the cat out of the closet

23) After searchin entire house, give up on bungee cords and open closet to get replacement bungee cords.

24) Find kitten and original bungee cords in closet

25) Chase kitten from closet, grab bungeee cords

26) chase cat from closet

27) Bungee cords in hand, remove kitten from helmet and grab helmet

28 ) Remove cat from bag, pick up bag

29) Realise you don't have the bike key.

30) Put down helmet, bungee cords, and bag, locate bike key

31) Search house for bungee cords, which the kitten ran off with while you looking for the key

32) After searchin entire house, give up on bungee cords and open closet to get replacement bungee cords.

33) Find kitten and original bungee cords in closet

34) Chase kitten from closet, grab bungeee cords

35) Chase cat from closet

36) Bungee cords in hand, remove kitten from helmet and grab helmet, bungee cords, key

37) Remove cat from bag, pick up bag

38 ) Carry bag, helmet, key, and bungee cords to bike. Neighbors think you are insane because you are laughing out loud while strapping bag to bike.

Cats are great, requiring far less maintenance than a dog. I usually travel alone, in which case my lady friend is home to care for them. If we both go, we fill the litter box with fresh litter, fill a lasagna pan with food, fill another with water, and the little buggers are good for about a week. Any longer than that and a friend comes over every couple of days to scoop and refill the food/ water dishes and play with them. That's why I kept the kitten- one cat gets pretty bored if you leave it alone all day, but the two of them together amuse themselves wonderfully.
They are both calico cats, and are bat-sh*t crazy. The big cat is right at a year old, and I rescued her from a storm drain after he mother got hit by a car. Her brother had already starved to death down in the drain with her, so I fished her out. I nursed her back to health and she is surgically attached to me when I am home. The darn thing is so sweet and loving that I couldn't give it to the cat rescue shelter like I had planned, so I spent the $$$ for shots and to get it fixed and I kept it.
The little one is about four months now, and was found up under the spare tire of my friend Tammy's pick up truck when she got home from work at the oil refinery in Baton Rouge, LA. She hates cats, but this one was about the size of a tea cup and way too young to be away from mamma, so she was going to drop it at the shelter. But the shelters down there are still filled with Katrina rescue pets, so they wouldn't take it. So she drove all the way to Atlanta GA so I could do the eye-dropper thing and nurse it back to health like I did the other one. The two hit it off, and look like mother and daughter, so now I have two cats.

I have this picture, in my mind, of you pulling over for the night and out pop the cats.

So far I have avoided accidently packing the cats, but I usually have enough cat hair in the bag to MAKE a cat, should I feel lonely.

At least in the midst of everything, you didn't get confused and bungee the bag to the cat while trying to start the kitten!

Touching stories, DrBob. Although their beginnings have the potential to be tragic, it's thanks to you that the little kitties can spend the rest of their days in a warm and loving home.

My cat and I will be flying to Hawai'i in about 2 1/2 weeks. Unfortunately, upon arrival, she will be placed in quarantine for 4 months. Although I dread the thought of such a long separation, I think this may be the opportunity to look into adopting another cat and bringing both of them home at the same time. It pains me that my cat is lonely when I'm away, but it would be a joy to see two cats entertaining each other (and me) and having a good time.

Hawaii, eh? Cool! Sux about the quarantine. Can you at least visit?

Yup, two cats are certainly better than one. The older one was starting to get a little destructive, scratching up the furniture and eating the carpet, and would get very frustrated when I was busy and didn't run around the house so it could chase me. If I touched it it would want to wrestle my hand rather than being petted, and my hands and arms were scratched all to heck. She chewed EVERYTHING, and even peed in the dirty clothes pile once or twice. I added the second kitty, and all the bad behavior stopped. Both are wide-eyed, playful, and more loving than ever. I dropped plans to de-claw, as they use the scratching post and play with each other, rather than shredding my hand for fun. I laugh my butt off watching them race around the house, and hide behind things so they can jump out at the other one.

I hope to be able to visit, although there's the possibility of my cat being quarantined in another island aside from O'ahu (where I'll be living).

My cat isn't all too destructive, but she somehow didn't like the Christmas tree I brought into the apartment and made short work of it before I even had the chance to put the ornaments. Her specialty seems to be hiding Daddy's stuff. As the movers packed up and hauled out my stuff, I found pens/pencils, a few pairs of sunglasses, coins, one unopened and one opened pack of cigarettes she hid during her kitten days (she's 2 yrs old now). I remember trying to look for that opened pack of cigarettes almost two years ago, and stressing out over it. Man, are those cigarettes awful now.

I can't wait until I settle after the move, reunited with my cat and adopting another. My goal is to ride all of the Aloha state's major islands. I can see myself following your 38-step checklist already. My cat is quite a handful all by herself!
