Default One Less Idiot

Links to two different local papers on what happened;

Dirt bike rider acted ‘carelessly’

Columbia Missourian - Dirt biker killed in accident on U.S. 63

The stories differ somewhat but basically what happened was there was an idiot at night on a highway, no lights, no helmet, on a dirt bike.

I know it is a tragic thing that happened, for the family & friends of the rider & for those involved in the accident as well but the guy on the dirt bike was the cause for his own death so I have little sympathy for him, thus I have made a few smarta** remarks about him.

This has been the main topic for the past two days at work. A couple of people have actually told me this is why I should give up riding, I laugh & walk away making reving noises like an engine then take off like a motorcycle racing away.

Acting irresponsibly? Check.
Riding a dirt bke on the highway? Check.
Riding at night without lights? Check.
Deserved to die? No.

I don't make jokes about anyone's death. Sure, sometimes it may seem that people were just "asking for it", and there are plenty of people who choose odd ways to commit suicide. But still, his family has to deal with the consequences, and his parents will live the rest of their lives with the question "what could have been?"

An accidental death is always a tragedy, regardless of the circumstances.

Being a fellow motorcycle enthusiast I wouldn't wish death on anyone on two wheels, even the stupid ones

+1 to both of you.

We all do stupid stuff at times. I can't imagine running over someone on the road. I hate running over animals, but a person... I don't think I could deal with it.

Update,

"Brian Davis said he thinks his brother’s friends had left the mud run without him and that Davis had no way to get back to Columbia, where he was staying with another relative."

Dirt bike rider was ‘good kid’

Guess todays younger generation is too lazy to walk?

That really depends. Was it 5 miles away or 20?

I agree with both sides of this...GSX, I see your point, Inspiron, yours too. It's too bad that you're both right.

It's a Shame

damn. that sucks ... dude was dumb to do what he did, that's for sure. I feel sorry for the kids that hit him ... they probably feel bad even though they are not at fault.

I have never been to the spot in Callaway county where the mud runs are but if I am right they are under 20 miles.

I am kinda biased since I walked from KC Royal stadium to where I used to live north of Columbia, around 135 miles, one of those "if my fat a** can walk that you shouldn't have any trouble".

I agree with Inspiron, he did not deserve to die.

But because he was disregarding safety I have no sympathy for him, his family & friends yes.

Bike was stolen;

Columbia Missourian - Dirt bike in fatality was stolen

A person told me yesterday that he had heard the kid was riding into & out of the grass median, could just be his guessing as to what the kid was doing.

A little off-topic -

I was riding in the car with my wife last night, pitch black out, on a road that has no street lights, but always a good amount of cars on it. Two lane road, double yellow lines... approach a hill where you cant see on the other side (probably why there's double yellow) and 4 sport bikes come up from behind me and wiz around very fast... first I winced, squinting waiting for another car to come over the hill and an accident happen right in front of me. Luckily it didnt... then I told my wife "see, now that's stupid right there... its stuff like that that give good riders a bad wrap."
