Question Transporting a Bike in a Pick-up bed, help please?

I am going to haul a trailer from OH to NC in a couple weeks and would also like to take my Yamaha Vmax along in the back of my F150. Can anyone offer advise on what to do and not to do, proper tie down practices, use of the center stand (I am assumeing not to). Thanks for any feed back or direction to the correct treads. I tried a search and didn't have much luck. I usually just drive the ATV up the ramp, but I am guessing that is not a good idea for a bigger bike, even if I thought I could pull it off.

Hi,

Check these threads for tiedowns placement:

As for getting up there, a ramp and two (or more) people are required to get it safely.

Question also, can the tailgate support the weight of the bike going up the ramp?

Thanks for all the help but after I thought it out and measured the truck, it is just not going to work, the truck is a Crew Cab and the bed is only 5.5 feet. The Bike is 6.5 feet from the front of the front tire to the middle of the back tire, so it would be sitting with half the wieght at or past the middle of the tailgate. I just don't want to trust that for 450 miles. What a bummer, so much for that plan. Thanks again. Hmm I wonder if the Vmax can pull 2 waverunners on a trailer. haha.

All you have to do is put a substantial plank down the middle so that it cantilevers over the tailgate. The weight from the front of the bike will hold it down.

DO NOT use the centerstand. Pull the forks most of the way down with ratchet straps and add a second pair more rearward for extra security. Make sure none of the straps contact paint or other delicate surfaces. They'll wear holes in it.

Thanks RowdyRed94, that's the plan. I'll give it a try.

Put the bike in at an angle with the front tire in one corner.
