| I don't know what state you live in, but this test guide from Idaho is pretty typical of the skills test in the three different states I've taken it in. On Cycle Skills Test Study Guide

| Did you follow the link in my other post? It shows diagrams of the 9 manouvers and how to practice for them.

| Throttle Jockey ![]() | I also live in NY. But I got my waiver from taking the MSF course. It looked to be too difficult to just "take" a test. It seems as if they really want you to take the course....which is, IMO, a great idea. I've been teaching the wife to ride so she can take the test from DMV. According to the local DMV here...the only place you can request a bike road test is on the web. However, there are no appointments available. It looks like my wife will have to learn how to shift anyway....via the MSF class. I have 1 friend who did manage to get a road test (3 years ago). He had been riding with just a permit for nearly a decade before. They had him do 1 set of figure eights...which I think was in a 20' box when I was at the MSF. A fast stop, u-turn and then a "go as slow as you can go" manuever. You typically go over a bit more with the MSF course...but with the DMV, it always depends on the person giving you the test. They either care that you'll be a rider (and put forther the extra effort to make sure you're skilled)...or care that they have one more to do before lunch (meaning...all you gotta do is show up and you can get passed). I'd rather have an honest test of my abilities. |
