Default Helmet/MSF Related Question

So this may sound like a stupid question but hey im new so bare with me.

Im taking the MSF course in 2 weeks, but as of today im still unsure if im buying a bike. I want to take the msf course and guage how confident I am on a bike and go from there.

My question is this, I am debating weather to buy my nolan helmet now or not. My fiances parents have a 3/4 helmet they are going to let me borrow if I want but its a size to small. Heres where the questions comes into play, should I buy my nolan "its a full face flip up" and use that with limited vision or should I use the 3/4 so I have a lot more vision for the msf course? Or is the full face not as limited as I think it is?

Sorry for the confusing helmets, just a newbie looking for some help

I had a modular helmet during my MSF course. During the first half of the training I left it open the whole time so I could feel like I could see everything. By the second day I was closing it to make myself "not look" because they will get after you by the second day if you dont keep your head up looking forward.

If the course has Helmets available, use theirs rather than spend money for something you may not want. As for a helmet that does not fit, it reduces the effectiveness of the helmet in case of a crash.

Place a high value on your head, they are hard to replace.

Take care and ride safe.

I dont mind buying a helmet, I have feeling ill be buying a bike, its just im not 100% sure. At worst if I buy it and dont buy a bike I can sell it for a small loss "or least it seems like"

My biggest concern is the 3/4 vs full face but the guy aboves post helped out a lot. If their going to get on me for looking then it makes sense to ride with what my helmet will be on the road anyway right?

1: A full face helmet DOES NOT limit your field of vision AT ALL.

2: A badly fitting helmet will give you a headache.

3: If you aren't sure, don't spend hundreds of $$$ on a brand new Nolan flip-up. Borrow a helmet from someone who's head is the same size as yours.

Thanks thats what I was looking for inspiron!

I wore a large and it was slightly tight not by much but enough to squeeze the hell outta my poor cheek area. My helmet size for nolan is the low end of the XL so it makes sense that the L was slightly to small. Not enough to give me a headache but enough to annoy and hurt after long distances

Heads come in diff. shapes, therefore helmets do also.
It is very important to try diff. brands, till you find the right one.

I wore a 3/4 during my MSF, because that's what I had at the time. They did have them there for us to borrow (the MSF Course) and all were full face helmets, but I didn't care. I felt better off having the 3/4 , because it was wicked hot that year...and it was nice catching the breeze from under the old fashioned "bubble" visor I had on it.

As for them checking on where you're looking...you betcha. This was something hard for me to get used to...riding in dirt for as long as I did, I never looked much further than where my front tire was about to go.

You'll get the hang of it, don't worry. You said that you have a 3/4, but it's too small. Are you sure you can't manage with it for the few hours of the 2 days of riding you'll do?

I mean...is it really that bad? You won't be wearing it for the whole day...and there are breaks during the time you're riding. I actually got my hair cut extra short before my MSF so my helmet would be looser & the air would circulate better. Just a thought...do what ever you like.
