Default Thermal Expansion/Contraction

This morning on the ride to work I noticed something that got my gears turning. From a stop at a red light, my engine temperature was 217F. After 30-60 seconds of accelerating, the engine temp had decreased to 192F. Such a rapid change in temperature seemed to me like it could potentially have a significant effect on the expansion/contraction of the engine.

I've done work with thermal expansion at my last job, so I punched in some numbers and found out that a 25 degree temperature change (like above) creates .0003" of expansion/contraction per inch (25mm) in aluminum. Granted, all engine components most likely expand and contract together... however, it's still something that's interesting to think about. Anyone here have any opinions on this?
