Default Help with Persuasive Speech

Aloha all, been a while.

So I am presenting a Persuasive Speech tonight for a speech class. I chose Motorist Awareness for Motorcyclists for my topic, thinking it would be a challenge but found a lot more information than I realized was out there, thanks to the NHTSA and MSF.

I've got it all prepared, ppt slideshow to assist and all.

What I'm looking for is opinions and rants from other motorcyclists on here. When thinking about what messages you want to convey to cage drivers out there to be more aware of you being on the road with them, what would you want to convey to them? What points do you feel I should emphasize on as being an actual rider, not a statistic from NHTSA? Rant on!

Aloha,
Kehau

By the way, I'm trying to persuade people to take a driver's refresher course and/or the MSF course.

Hey, Kehau!

My suggestions:
1. We are generally not outlaws, hooligans, or wreckless idiots.
2. Visibility (or lack thereof) is an issue that needs attention from motorists.
3. Lane sharing is helpful for everyone and should be made legal.
4. Motorcycling can be done safely and requires training, protective gear and a proper motorcycle.

I heard that if you ride a motorcycle you are 50% more likely to end up on Jerry Springer.

Driving is a serious responsibility and should take first place in your attention when you are behind the wheel. If you are eating breakfast, putting on make-up, usning an electric shaver, talking on the phone, disciplining the kids, etc. your attention will be taken off the road and the traffic surrounding you. That loss of attention can be very deadly to people on two wheels. Another large SUV or minivan will jar you out of your inattentiveness, but a small vehicle like a motorcycle will not be noticed. Driving is serious business: Pay Attention!!!

1. Look twice to make sure there is no one there.
2. Do not ride a bikes tail.
3. Avoid left turns in front of bikes.

1) We have families too, and we would like to live to see them again.

2) We can accelerate faster and stop faster than most cars, so please, keep a safety margin when following us.

3) Remember what you learned in driving school - check your mirrors, signal, look over your shoulder, THEN change lanes or turn when safe.

4) Make sure that you field of vision is not blocked - adjust your mirrors and wash them when they are dirty! And wash your windows (especially that ucky milky inside windshield) while you're at it too!

5) Driving requires 100% concentration. Don't talk on the phone, yell at your kids, shave, eat breakfast or daydream while at the wheel. We can ride our bikes for an hour without answering a phone - you can do the same in your car. Try it ... you'll see!

6) As was said above, we are tax-paying, hard working people, who choose to ride a motorcycle. Don't let the 'Easy Rider' image fool you.

Okay, here goes:

1. You have mirrors on your vehicle for a reason; use them. We're not invisible if you actually look.

2. I am NOT the moron who flipped you off while passing at 110MPH yeaterday, so don't act like all sportbike riders are like that.

3. True motorcyclists loathe Squids as much as you do.

4. We get phenominal gas mileage without having to shell out $20k for a Hybrid, but it DOES take training and practice. When done properly, it is no more dangerous than driving a car.

5. Automatic transmissions are to be driven using your right foot only. Quit "resting" your left foot on the brake pedal. Those behind you have no indication of your true intentions.

Here's mine:

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury... I'm prepared today to show you that it is quite easy to be aware of motorcycles.

When you open your eyes while driving, the visual information goes in your brain. When that device, your brain, is in the on position, your car should respond with the right answers. In the opposite scenario, when your brain is off and your eyes are closed - you drive like an I-D-I-O-T.

No further questions.

...you pieces of crap.
