Default Passed riding test!

I passed the riding test today at the MVA! 3 weeks ago I hadn't ever been on a motorcycle. For the past two summers I've been trying to get in a MSF licensing class, but the classes are always filled up. So while its not the safest way to learn I decided to buy a bike and learn with other riders that I know. I bought a 2006 GS500f and started learning. I just signed up for a MSF class (non-licensing) in my area for next month. I just wanted to thank everyone that has posted on this site (and other sites) for all of the great info and safety tips. I am definitely taking things cautiously and look forward to lots of safe riding. Thanks again and any additional tips are appreciated.

Congrats on passing the riding portion at your local MVA all things considered I would hope that until you actually recieve your license that you are not riding on public roads with others but instead practicing in a empty parking lot, you live in baltimore so the Ravens staduim sounds perfect. Here is a link with some excellent new rider tips, remember learning to ride by trail and error with freinds is one of the most dangerous things you can do. Dont fall into a false sense of confidence with those straids instead look at motorcycling as a life long learning process. http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/fo...new+rider+tips

Keep trying to get into a class, sometimes they have no shows.

Just remember ... your license means that you know the minimum: It is a license to learn how to ride, not a certificate that you know everything.

Keep the shiny-side up, and enjoy the ride!

I should have been more specific...I have my Maryland motorcycle license now. First you get your learners after passing the written test and after 2 weeks are eligible to take the riding test, then you get your M class. Is it different in D.C.?

I understand that riding is always a learning experience just as I learned today. I was sitting at a light in the right lane about 4 cars back. The light changed and as I came into the intersection a woman on a cell phone came over right as I was at her rear wheel. I wasn't riding next to her but coming up and going by her. I had to move to the right and back off the throttle. Even as I hit the horn she kept coming over anyway. It really wasn't even a close call but a lesson on how drivers don't pay attention.

No amount of practice in a parking lot can prepare you for every possible thing that can happen on the road...In a sense, it's almost always trial and error. Just because you take a MSF course and know what to do in a given situation, doesn't mean that you will apply it when you need to. (hopefully everyone will). I'm not taking your comment personally, but I have noticed in some of your other posts you are quick to preach to others when you don't exactly have a whole lot of experience (given your age and if your Gixxer is your first bike). I appreciate what your saying, it just sounds like YOU know everything there is to know about riding. Just because I haven't been through the MSF course doesn't mean that I shouldn't be on the road or that I'm dangerous.

Be safe everyone.

Get used to it . it is pandemic.

"Philly, Roosevelt Blvd and Large St. waiting for the light to change. On our lanes, parallel to each other. A WOMAN IN A CAGE WITH A CELL PHONE talking to her macDaddy. Light changed with all took off but she decided to cross the lanes and just about touched my rear as fast as she was taking off. Well decided to catch up and tell me off. For her it was my fault to be on the way. "M F, can't you see that I am talking on the phone?" "Some dude in a F'g bike here baby" I am glad that dude she was talking to over the phone was not there. . I don't want to get a tail beating LOL

Girlfriend had tattoes up her neck like a Magellan's map.

The worst part of my experience is that it's illegal to change lanes in an intersection. Even if she was just following the laws of the road, it wouldn't have mattered if she saw me or not.

BTW, all you MF'n bikers are the same.

Congratulations! I did not do the state thing ... I took a MSF course and got mine that way ... I hear the state test is harder, but its a good idea to take a MSF course. ... my sister just got her license last week .. she does not have a bike though.

Congratulations again!
