| Top Gear ! Full Throttle! ![]() | For as long as I can remember, my girlfriend has not wanted to wear a helmet. When I got home from work and went for my regular ride. This time, my fiancee decided to come with me. I told her that she was not getting on without a full face helmet. Ten minutes of whining, begging, complaining and otherwise refusing to wear one, she finally broke down with the age old line: You wear it or you don't ride. So she decided on a Scorpion EXO-400 in the lavender Paradise design. It's cute and girly. It's nice to see a design out there that the girly girls would like - she didnt like any of the other designs out ther, and it makes me feel better now that she's got something safe Since ![]() The black is my EXO-700 black Fury ![]() ![]() ![]()

anywho someone told me when it comes to safety you get what you pay for. This struck me old because in the vast world of motorcycle helmets there are tons, and even more tons of opinions but where are the safety teams that actually test the helmets in a controlled simulation environment? My co-worker walked up to me yesterday and I asked him what helmet he had, he said when he first got his mv4 augusta he walked into the dealership and said give me the most expensive helmet you have, but does the price determine the safety of the helmet or the safety? Are helmets simliar to most things coming down to a name? I know Honda Cars are known for there durability but are certain motorcycle helmets safer than others? or are you just paying for a name persay Shoei or Arai. Excluding features such as sweat asorbing pads and quick release shields which helmet is really king of safety? Or are you just paying for features? I know about the Snell and Dot standards that most helmets are tested upon but is that enough? Then you have helmets that are Fiberglass enforced I guess to make them lighter but does that compromise protection?

| In a lot of the top priced helmets you are paying for a name (Corser) and/or the graphics. These do not make you head safer, maybe bigger. They do make a major dent in the wallet. My son is a drag racer, he told me what his helmet retails for, then because he worked in the performance field he told me the wholesale price and I spit my coffee all over the floor. If they sold the helmet for 1/2 price they are still making a huge markup. So price is not the deciding factor. |

| I own two top-of-the-line lids. The most expensive Arai (RX7 RIV) and the most expensive Shoei (X-11) models made - both race replicas. The splashy paint doesn't add protection but it might make you more visible. I got the designs that I simply liked however. Yeah, you pay $$$ for certain brands and to an extent, DOT and Snell standards mean all helmets meet some level standard. However with the high end helmets, you get supreme comfort - otherwise don't buy them. And yeah, they are overpriced in North America. I bought mine here at 1/2 the price they would cost in Canada. Everybody and his dog who rides motorcycles or even scooters wears Arai and Shoei high end helmets here...
