Bike: The wife won't let me get one

Default Hello All..

Hello All,
I'm new to this forum, as well as motorcycles. I've never owned one, and never really wanted one until recently. I think my coworkers, who are always talking about their dirt bikes, planted the bug. My dad has always been a big Harley fan. In fact, in '76, when I was 2, he sold his 65 panhead(?) that he converted to a chopper for $2600 and used that money as a down payment on our first house. (Apparently, the day he was selling it I decided to try to climb on it and ended up tipping it over. Luckily, for me, it fell away from me.) He always talks about getting another one.

Anyway, now I've got this urge to buy a bike. The bike would mostly be ridden to/from work and, at first, I wanted a combo cruiser/sport and was looking at the Suzuki SV650, but decided I needed something with a lower seat height. Though I was able to touch when standing, it was only with the balls of my feet. I could just see myself falling at a red light or in traffic. Being 5'6" can really suck some times.. That being the case, I'm now wanting a cruiser. The two that would be in my price limit that I like are the M50 and Vulcan 900. I think, because of the better brakes, I'm leaning more towards the Kawasaki. What do you folks think?

Anyway, that's my story. I'm sure I'll be visiting quite often.

Talk to you later,
Kris

Oh, BTW, everything in that second paragraph is all null and void until my wife okays the idea - which isn't going to happen soon. The earliest date she's given me is when she finishes nursing school.....in two years. With a three year old son and 6 month old daughter at home, her main concern is safety, which is understandable.
